Belt tensioner pulley is garbage.

Has anyone had the problem I`m having with the awful design of the belt tensioner everyone I talk to hates it. I had a belt failure and the tensioner killed the harmonic balancer bearings cost me $1200.00 to fix A BIT CRAZY if you ask me. Am I going to have this happen to me every time a belt decides to fail. A couple of my fellow mini maniacs have had this happen to them and a few of them complained to the right people I guess ,And got theirs fixed for free, NOT ME!!
Are their any replacements for this piece of garbage ? My car is a 2003 MCS
any help would be appreciated THX.........no other problems with the car even after 100K mark.

Was it something like this? And could this have helped prevent the destruction? I certainly would have installed the DT strap if I had any idea of the potential damage with a failure.

Cheers!!

Thanks ,it looks like the tension stop cable might do the trick . My mechanic told me that the design of the tensioner is about the worst he has ever seen
on any car. What was BMW thinking , Looks like they had a bunch of spare parts laying around and decided to use them . Example : the plunger part that looks like it should be holding up your boot and bonnet hatch go figure. Thanks again.

I put on the Detroit Tuned stopper for piece of mind. $20 much better than $1200.00. Yet to break a belt.
