Finally, a new transmission after 14 months of complaining

So, after 14 months of telling them it needs replaced I finally broke my dealership and they replaced the transmission. The only problem is the part# on the new trans does not match the part # on realoem.com. I have a 2007 R56 Cooper S w/ LSD
New replacement transmission part# 23-00-7-568-719
Old broken transmission part# 23-00-7-573-131
Can anyone confirm that this new trans. has a LSD? I think they replaced it w/ the wrong one.

Just take a look in the hole where the driveshafts go into the transmission - if you see a diff pin then it's non LSD, if it's just a hole with nothing in between then it's LSD>

One tire on terra ferma and the other on loose or wet ground will provide the answer.

Not from a mini gearbox, but applies for all FWD LSDs

Image from Honda gearbox

LSD: you can see right through the hole

No LSD (see the diff pin)

or this one sums it up

turn off DSC. Take a turn after the light goes green and hammer the gas in 2nd gear. If inside tires smokes: no lsd.

not true.

I have lsd and can still smoke the inside tire, just not as much as if I didn't.

better test. If you leave two black streaks you've got it. If you don't then the test is inconclusive. Even with LSD one tires gets more power than the other. It is not a 50/50 split.

best test. make sure one tire is on a very slippery surface so it has little to no traction. if you can still drive forward - bingo. haveing the e-brake on can help to make sure.

Mine's scheduled for a new tranny tomorrow so I called the SA to verify the replacement has LSD. He did some checking ...replacement parts are based on the car's VIN ...my car's VIN shows it's equipped with LSD ...they ordered a replacement tranny with LSD.

just to add... part #23007573131 on realoem.com shows up as the part number for a 6spd MT w/ LSD.

Can I ask why you guys had new trannies put in? I'm having issues with my 6sp manual where shifting to 5th and 6th at speed is SUPER stiff...as in my mom can barely do it when she borrowed my car. The "Shop Foreman" says it's normal and some Mini's are even more stiff...

It wasn't always like this...and it's a little disappointing when my 95 Taurus SHO had a nicer shift mechanism.

ColinMC - that doesn't sound normal.

With ~3K miles, mine started out with some driveline chattering when taking off in 1st & 2nd gear which quickly manifested itself to a slipping clutch when on boost in 2nd. Following morning I had a puddle of gear oil on my garage floor. Problem ended up being a loose input shaft resulting in a new tranny; they don't repair the trannies at the dealership, they only swap them out.

Almost at 6K miles, shifts are still smooth.

Yeah it has me worried...mine isn't the severe problems you say...but it's still annoying when mine suddenly got stiff a while ago and the "shop foreman" says that's normal...I used to be able to use 2 fingers to shift now I gotta full fist it or that shifter isn't going anywhere. I want to install a short shifter I have sitting in my room in the box, but won't do it yet figuring they'll blame that for the problem...or it might be even harder to shift i'm guessing with that installed.

EDIT: I started posting in my original thread about this so I don't get this one way off topic...sorry
