And just as I thought..

...I had the money to fix/replace my low speed fan assembly, something is wrong with my clutch? Or something?

I was on my way to work this morning, downshifted to take the turn around right toward the frontage road leading to my store, and my car pops out of second gear. I try putting it back into second gear, and again, pops out. It will not stay in second gear at all now. Drove it home nursing it from first to third and so on. Second gear just wont stay in.

I pray its just the clutch or something even more simple, anybody else have this problem?

Is that a sign of a failed transmission?

Well, what is your milage? Driving style?

If it was something with the clutch master or slave cylinders, you'd have trouble with other gears as well, or couldn't get into a gear. Since you can use the clutch normally to get into first, start and shift about, I think that those cylinders are ok.

Poping out of a gear could only be something with the linkages or the syncros. I'm sorry to say that if one syncro is bad, the entire transmission is done because the syncros are not available seperatly.

However, you could get a dog engagement set from Quaife. You'd have a hard time breaking those no matter how you drive.

I've read some seriously high prices quoted online for replacement/rebuilt transmissions.

Most are on consumer websites, anybody else have charges they've incurred replacing a tranny? 04 r50 is the midlands trans, right?

From: Washington. No, the other one.
Throwout bearing going bad will also cause that kind of behaviour. Starts with one gear, then sooner or later (usually sooner) all the gears are affected.
But with the Midlands, all bets are off. That tranny goes south more often than not.

Diagnosis: dead tranny.

Price: $4800 at the Mini dealer.

Any suggested/recommended alternatives? Like the uprated midlands from Mini Mania? And a shop in texas known for quality work?
