Has anyone else had this gremlin?

Three times in the last 16 months this has occurred. After getting in and buckling up the seat belt the chime will continue to go off. It will continue no matter what you do (turn off the motor, remove the key, get out of the car and walk away). It will continue for about 15 minutes then stop. The only way to get it to shut off is to disconnect the battery for a second then it will reset. It doesn't happen very often but when it does it will drive you crazy.

The same thing has happened to my Mini twice in the past month. I took the key out and it still kept going. I told my service advisor about it and he said he never heard of that before. I'd say a gremlin for sure! I've been having other electrical problems though so I just passed it off to that.
Anyone else having this problem?

My Mini has done this about 4 times now over the last year, spoke to the dealer about it, but they didn't know anything about it. Very odd..

Yup, I've had this too. Take the key out, lock the doors, etc. everything and it's still *ding ding ding ding* I just try to avoid all situations in which it may be tempted to start.

This just happened to me today. Got in, buckled up put the fob in and it started chiming. Started the car and it was still chiming. Stopped the car and removed the fob, the chime would not stop. Drove the car home still going.
The chime ran a good five minutes after stopping the car.
There was no belt warning light lit either, unless I unbuckled.
Seems like some kind of electrical problem.

Same deal for me, but only once so far. Shut it down, opened the door with key removed, then all was well.

Just deactivate the chime sound from the OBC. Mine was gone the first day.

Btw mine is a 401.. currently the engine in it has maybe 375 hp it would run 0-60 consistantly under 5 sec... I have another 401 waiting with maybe 400 + but I keep the car in storage and I have to take a vacation and travel 1500 miles just to work on it. I think next summer i will be able to my vacation to install it.

I will say I like boxy cars.. The Mini is would be nice to suppliment the 7mpg i get with the Gremlin.. I kinda laugh when others complain about the price of gas.. My current daily driver is a 1978 Jeep Cherokee Chief (another boxy car) gets 8 mpg. That has a 401 too. I will say with current price of gas now. Its like getting a nice pay raise..

I am still looking to buy a brand new Mini, I have been looking for a year lol
I am thinking to go all out on the JCW.. but its amazing the amount of little problems these cars seam to have.. I guess it wouldnt matter that much since it wouldnt be a daily driver.. I guess its tricky packing so much technology into such a small package leaves for bugs.. (does that make sense?) I will stop babbling

Thank You for the compliment

This happened to me two days ago. I took the fob out, put it back in, restarted the engine, and the chime went away after the normal interval. I'm very interested in how to deactivate the chime since its annoying in the first place.

happened to me twice last week...but both times i had something resting on the passenger seat. removed said item(s) from the passenger seat, chime went off. thought there might be some sort of pressure/weight sensor on the seat, so i did some experimenting the second time...1 gallon of milk, no chime. 2 gallons of milk, chime. weird, no?

jpp zoso,

There is a weight sensor in the seat...it's so the airbag won't go off if no one is sitting there. I think all cars have them.

Some also have "progressive" airbags, so that the heavier the person sitting there, the more force the airbag exerts when inflating.
