AC system blockage?
AC system blockage?
I just bought a 2003 Cooper and have some problems with the AC not blowing cold. I took it to that local mechanic who evacuated and recharged the system. No leaks, holds pressure well. Compressor turns on but it doesn't blow cold. He said that there is a blockage in the system and that it probably need to have the receiver/dryer replaced and possibly the expansion valve/orifice.
Has anyone seen a similar problem? Suggestions?
I am in Southern Orange County CA and could use a recommendation for an independent mechanic. Any experience with Irvine BMW/Mini dealorship?

Yes the cooling fan comes on, the compressor engages. It just doesn't blow cold. The AC Tech did a complete evacuate/recharge to the specified pressure (from the sticker under the hood, (91 psi +/-2?) but said that there was a blockage somewhere in the system.
It is possible the expansion valve is blocked. Unscrew the dryer, look for grey stuff on the end, if it is dirty, the desiccant has probably spilled and entered the system. The dryer is easy to replace, but the expansion valve is located under the driver’s side dash, not so easy; you will need new O-rings and adaptor plate also. The dryer and expansion valve are pricey items of around $150 or more each.
The cabin filter is located under the glove box; pull one side of the lid from the tabs, and then the other, remove the filter and see if that helps.
