08 S cooper with automatic, and I have experienced the same problem. Took into the dealer, and got a loaner car, also S. The loaner did not have the problem. The dealer reset the adaptive learning. I was driving the car not very aggressively. After the reset, the takeoff feels more smooth.

These cars have "adaptive learning"? Never hear of this. What does it do?
