Has anyone tried any of the MANY octane boosters?

The Penzoil has a 4 octane boost, seems reasonable. The 104 seems a bit much. Or even better yet how about some REAL racing fuel?

As a sponsor here on MCO, our AMSOIL Boost came out on top by an independent test I found awhile back on the internet. Just do some searches and you will find them. I had it as a feature product some time ago.. Here are the details:

Series 2000 Octane Boost
Improves the performance of all two-cycle and four-cycle gasoline-fueled engines. Just one treatment significantly increases engine response and power. AMSOIL Octane Boost reduces engine knock, improves ignition, helps fuel burn cleaner and inhibits corrosion. Recommended for all high performance off-road and racing applications. Increases octane number by up to 7 points. Product Code: AOB

Performance Features
Improves performance
Maximizes power
Improves ignition
Helps fuel burn cleaner
Removes carbon deposits
Reduces engine knock
Improves responsiveness
Inhibits corrosion

But honestly, I only recommend this product for racing like it says. If you are not knocking and don't have a high pressure turbo system you really don't need it. I used it on my 64 Corvair and it helped but that was just to reduce the pre-ignition.
If you are looking for a additive to maintain your fuel system and keep the milage where it needs to be use our P.I. Injector treatment. One bottle treats 160 gallons and 90% of my customers notice a difference. Look it up on my site.

Thanks.

The no knocking response is great for fixed or vacuum advance timing and fixed valve timing but the MINI (and many, if not most) modern cars have variable valve and ignition timing to eliminate knock. The knock sensors send a signal that allows the cylinder pressure to be varied. That's why you can run the car on regular unleaded but premium is recommended for peak performance. By raising the octane you can raise the performance of the car, up to a limit.

The MINI literature suggests that premium fuel (93 octane at lower altitudes, 91 here in Colorado) is optimum. At 20cents/gallon the real thing to figure out is how much of your octane booster per gallon it takes to add 4 points to regular unleaded and if you have any savings below that 20 cents.

I just ran a half tank of 100 octane race fuel a few days ago. There was not a huge difference in power. It seemed to run a little cleaner, less sputter. It did cost me over 200 ft of rubber though
