1-2mm gap between window and weather strip
1-2mm gap between window and weather strip
Just bought a used 2004 MINI Cooper S.
I noticed lots of wind noise driving it around.
Upon closer inspection, the driver and passenger windows do not seal against the weather strip. On the rear edge of both windows, the window sticks out 1-2mm away from the weather strip, leaving a open gap. The window is snug to the strip all the way around except for about 50% of the rear edge in the middle of the window where it curves. Sitting inside, you can actually see through to the outside, between the window and the gap. The gap is large enough to slide an envelope through.
I noticed other threads on this forum complaining about the same issue, but no resolution.
Anyone have a solution to this issue?

The rear edge of the window is making contact with the weather strip at the bottom and top of the window. It's just the area in between that isn't making contact. If I push the window in from the outside, it will make contact.
Maybe I should move the door latch back for a tighter fit?
Took it to the dealership and they adjusted the windows. The gaps are gone and it is hundred times quieter in the car.
New issue - The right window's front edge whistles at speeds over 50mph.
Dealer said they would fix it as soon as I can bring it back.

if you look on the lower portion of the door you will see 2 adjusting bolts, they bring the window in or away from the body...if the window isnt sitting square at the top you will need a special spanner wrench the dealer only has to adjust the window that way

i need to move it in a little then.
i noticed this ever since i got my windows tinted. i think its when they are squeeging the tint on, since they are frameless windows, the pressure pushing on the glass prally through it out of alignment.

If the glass is not square in the door, the trim on the outside of the top door edge will need to be removed to access the star wheel that secures the glass so that the glass can be repositioned then tighten the star wheel once it is square. there is a special wrench for the task, however the star wheel can be loosened with a metric Allen wrench since the center of the wheel has a place for the wrench to fit.
negative, the Bentley manual describes what must be done. The two screws in the bottom of the door...heaads pointing down toward the ground have to be loosened.....then slid them in toward the car or away from the car to adjust the rake of the glass to make a tight seal.

i didnt think you would be able to fit anything up top on the star wheel without that special tool which is very slim to get into that tight space
We used the allen wrench on the star wheels as stated above when installing my drivers door regulator. Worked fine, didn't even know there was a special tool for the star cog until recently. Now I need to go back and try to adjust my window. The window doesn't go all the way up and goes down farther than the passenger side so I'm hoping there is enough adjustment to fix my problem.
