Sorry in advance if this was discussed already.
I just took my mini in for service and my service adviser told me that my Ignition coils were rusted due to water and was not covered under warranty just because the hood scoop grill was removed. Has anyone heard of this before. The total was $370 for parts and labor. outrageous, what do you think?

 

That rediculous. Especially considering they halfway opened up the scoop from the factory, I'd remind them of that.

 

This post brings up interesting issue regarding unintended consequenses. Am I correct that you have an S and that the reason the grill was out was to help cool the turbo to avoid the melting bonnet scoop?

If so, I really don't think that the dealer's position is very fair. I understand that in later S models, MINI has opened some holes in the grill to try to cure the heat issue. If I were you, I would ask to escalate this issue. Since there is a well established problem with the heat, and your solution was similar to MINI's (although a little more extreme by removing the entire grill) I think they should take that into consideration. Just my thoughts.....
