What sensors are involved in the autolock feature of the MINI? Mine stopped working after an alignment job at an independant shop. I still seem to have DSC as I can make it flash and I also have antilock brakes. No error indicators come on on the dash.

Gratuitus BUMP

Also, I called the dealership at the same time I posted the first message and haven't received a call-back from them....not even a courtesy "we're looking into it" call back....

Mine doesn't always lock my doors either. If I leave it running and get out of the car, when I start driving again the doors don't automatically relock again. Seems like once it's locked them it decides you have to shut the car off before it will auto lock them again. I found that strange, but not strange enough to warrant a trip to the dealer.

I know that they only lock once after an engine start.

But I assure you my car was turned off during the last 48 hours due to a gas shortage here in PHX. So I know for a fact that I started my car then drove and the locks did not even try to engage.

I also have turned it off then on again then drove over 10 mph and still no locking.

It's a programmable feature done before at the dealership before you take delivery of the car. I figure it must use a sensor somewhere to determine 10 mph. I'm wondering if that sensor is close to the suspension components that were messed with when I had my alignment done.

I didn't have any extra programmable features done when I picked up my MINI. What else is there beside auto lock?

Any problems with the programmed features that you know of?

Thanks.

Autolock is a programmable feature, but if programmed, it will lock the car at speeds >10 mph only if the car was previously locked via the remote.
If you pull into a gas station for example, shut down, get out, fill up, back in, start, drive off, they won't lock.
There are threads on other porgrammable features, but some are:

Daytime Running Lights
Follow Me Home Lights (stay lit after engine off for 30 secs).
Use long-press on remote to either open rear gate, or to open windows and sunroof.
Auto lock
Auto unlock
One remote press opens drivers door only, 2nd opens all (vs one press opens all).
There may be more....

My auto-locks got flakey for a bit a few months ago. The dealer supposedly "reset them" I'm assuming they turned the feature off and then on. They've worked consistantly since.

My autolock was flaky yesterday also...noticed it when I stopped at an ATM (got back in, started the car, drove for awhile and noticed the doors didn't lock. Same thing after getting some gas).

MINIs...never short on surprises.

Yeah, mine is back to normal...although I got the DSC/Tire-Pressure combo this past week.

Electrical gremlins seem to like to pay a lot of quick visits to these cars...

Mine will only lock if I lock and unlock the car when I get out. If I turn off the car, get out but don’t lock the car, they will not relock at 10 mph next time I start up. They didn’t do that when I first got the car so something has changed.

My 04 MCS always locks regardless of whether I locked the car previously. It also auto-unlocks when turn the key to 0. So far so good, knock on wood.

I think all of these electrical quirks may have to do with the BUS-something system MINI/BMW uses in the car. Methinks it uses the ECU too much for little things, and just like your computer's OS, it will from time to time forget to do things right.
