No news from me, yet, but thanks for asking.

As for your question about your son and any online schools, etc., I think it would be better if you started a thread on the Off Topic forum: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...splay.php?f=10 if you are hoping for input. I'm not too sure that NAM will be the best place to garner this kind of feedback, but you never know. Best wishes to your son and your family. Changes can be daunting or exciting depending on many things. My hope is that your son will find the new school he's attending to be academically worth while and socially comfortable.

P.S. Sent you a PM.

Did that with my 6th grade daughter some years back. She was "bored" at school. She eventually skipped 7th/8th grade and went to HS and graduated at 16 (my exwife was directing things). The online stuff is pretty easy depending on what you choose (there are tons of options for various prices). I prefer classroomsfor the social aspect but that's just me.

I have been following this subject for weeks and appreciate all of the data I have learned from the experiences of other Mini owners. A third repair attempt is scheduled for next week on my new auto. Service manager seemed unimpressed and resistant when I suggested (diplomatically) that he take a look at this forum. I am trying not to get discouraged.

Thanks again for everything.

My MINI was in for three times before they finally fixed it.

cjdoyle don't take no for an answer. If you followed my prior posts I had the amber gear icon come on the next day after they did the bulletin update which was basically tightening the loose nut on the trans. The next day they hooked my '08 MCSa up to the computer (PUMA) and it went to the MINI engineers who said to replace the transmission shifter mechanism. After they did that not a single problem since.I also printed out RussKeys post # 134 and mellotron's post # 143 to hand to my SA so he could read what is the proper repair for himself.

Good luck and keep us posted when you can.

Thanks for the encouragement, Jim R...I printed all of this forum's posts which I am studying. I intend to submit those which describe the solutions to the service people next week including certainly the one you suggested from RussKeys. Yesterday, no problem with gear icon but temperature here was cooler than recent past. This supports temperature related claims.

Again, I am grateful for all the insider info I have learned from all of you. Like many of you, I am almost 100 miles from dealership, so it has been difficult.... two previous unsuccessful fix attempts.

For what it's worth, just called my SA and said that my gear warning light continued to go off and on intermittently, to which he responded "I know, it will. The engineers are aware that there is a problem and they are working on a fix but that the adjustment and replacement options are not the answer." What can I tell you. Perhaps they're working on a fix that will not require the replacement and cost them less money. And so it goes...

Damn Otra, sorry to hear that your dealer is being so passive about this. My shifter replacement continues to be solid. I have over 4,000 miles on the new shifter. My Mini is my daily driver and my round-trip daily commute is 60 miles a day so my tranny is gets quite a workout. The temps have been pretty hot here in Northern California until recently.

I guess I am really fortunate that my dealer is high on customer satisfaction. I got my info about the shifter replacement from a couple of early posts in this thread and passed the info on to my service advisor. He scheduled me for a loaner and told me that they would keep my car until it was fixed. My dealer did try the cable adjustment and road tested the car and the light came back on. They then ordered the shifter and had it overnighted. My car was in the shop for a total of 9 days for the shifter and a couple of other warranty issues including replacing a wrinkled seat cover, removal of cosmoline and replacement of one of the fender mouldings. While it was in the shop I got to drive a brand new BMW 328i sedan so basically I was never inconvenienced. I am also fortunate that my dealer is only 7 miles from me.

I'm glad that the info I provided in an earlier post about my shifter replacement has helped many of you but I'm sorry that it hasn't helped you Otra. Good luck.

Thanks RussKeys, I'm not clear on why they won't do this until they hear officially from on high. In the past, all has been very good.

Honestly that is a real shame to hear as you can see from all of the positive posts that after the replacement of the automatic shifter mechanism the problem was finally fixed including mine.Maybe contact the Service Manager or even contact MINI USA and file a complaint and get them to investigate this.

When I had constant and reoccurring problems with Scrappy I was getting so fed up with the lack of response from my SA that I contacted MINI USA and they got involved and lit a fire under his butt after they finally tracked him down since he tends to avoid answering any phone calls.

Anyway good luck Otra and continue to keep us posted on what is happening.

First, as an ongoing update, I've hesitated to report back on this since we haven't really driven long enough in very hot conditions lately to fairly test the replacement gearshift. However, over the last several days we've driven considerable distances, left "Max" out in the FL heat on numerous occasions, and not once have we seen hide nor hair of that nasty amber gear icon. So far, we're cautiously optimistic that it's history!

Otra, I'm very dissapointed for you that your SA seems to be dragging his feet. I can certainly understand if something better/more cost effective is in the works, but without confirmation of that, how long would they have a customer wait and be inconvenienced?! I hope you can persuade them to make you "whole" again sooner rather than later unless there's a newer fix about to be released. FWIW for now, most of us involved have been repaired satisfactorily. I can only imagine your frustration and wish you Good Luck in your attempts!

I miss my sweet little auto which has been gone for 7 days...I was told that replacement part was installed today and if tomorrow's drive around and computer testing are okay, the car should be returned in two more days. I am hopeful that the 'part" is that which I insisted on after the education I received at this forum. cjd

Good for you, cjdoyle!!

Honestly, JCR1960 and 3DogDepot, I don't understand my dealership. For now I am choosing to believe them because they've always been very good. I'll be sure to let you know what finally transpires. Right now it's intermittent and has not caused any key sticking.

Will bring the car in 7:30am on Friday - they say it should be an easily reprogrammable issue and that I should be out w/n an hour. Here's hoping. If it's something more involved...well, they'll give me a rental if it's going to be a longer than 3 hours.

Took delivery on 4/28 of an MCCa.
Otra your issue started on 7/16/2008?? I'm not be as patient as you seem to be!! I would be contacting MINI USA, the SA Manager and anyone else who thinks your SA is a Dim Wit!! I don't care if they've given you EXCELLENT Service in the past this has been going on for more than TWO MONTHS!!

I know... Normally I am very assertive about this kind of thing. I guess it's time for me to explain why I am not going insane over this - the way I normally would have.

I have made a deal w/my dealership and will be taking delivery of a 2009 Clubman, with roof rails, in mid to late October. Without going into a long detailed post (which is my normal M.O.), I became extremely upset/angry about the MINI screw up over the base roof rack issue (for those that know about the roof rack base issues, you know, for those that have never had issues - good for you! ) and finally after numerous calls to MINI USA and more, I approached my MA and made a deal. I counted on the fact that I was a "repeat" buyer.

This doesn't mean that I don't give a darn about the current MCCa that I have - I still wash it, keep it clean, use my "quick detailer" etc. and I have told the SA that they are either going to have to fix it for me or before the next person buys it. This last time is when I was told that the engineers were working on some "fix" other than replacing the shifter.

So there you go. I can beat my head against the wall or just tread water now for the next month. I have made it clear that if my car breaks down due to this, I'll be visiting them with my "flame thrower".

I really appreciate everyone's help on this thread and am glad that you've all gotten your own issues dealt with successfully. If I hadn't made my exchange deal, I'd be really going to the mat over this - believe me.

OK, now that explains EVERYTHING!!! From reading how "on top" of all things MINI you are, this just wasn't jive-ing in my head. Good for you!!! I've never carefully followed the "Roof Rack" thread because it's not something we were ever interested in so I'm not specifically aware of the problems.

Again, from reading here, methinks you'll be choosing something in a lighter color with perhaps a body-color roof this time...am I right? Please share all your new specs. with us so we can enjoy it with you! Considering the many first year issues that have come up, I'm sure some of us might be inclined to do the same; however, I've always thought one would lose quite a bit on such a quick turn-around. I'm hoping it doesn't cost you too much extra to get what you want and that you played that "repeat customer" card for all it's worth! I know we hope to get an even better deal next time around (in about 4 yrs). Can't wait to hear more...

You're so thoughtful! I do not want to derail this thread too much more so I'll say this - yes, I did get a very good exchange rate and you're pretty close on the details, too. Pure Silver but with a black roof to encourage those rails to blend in. All the rest is the same minus the front fogs, and the piano black interior, and this time and I'm holding off on the invisishield aka clear bra to see if I can find a local installer to do a higher up the front bonnet job. I promise to post on the "Show Us Your..." thread when things come to a fruition. 3Dog, you are a close reader of people's posts.

I'm so sorry. Maybe, my SA has been right recently, about the ultimate fix? Did you make your calls yet?

Yes I called I might email him and ask when does MINI say enough is enough and gives me a new car. I have to be honest though I am truly not into my car right now my 7 year old Golden Retriever unexpectedly passed away on Thursday. It has been a really tough week.

Oh - I am so very sorry to read about your dog. I know how heart breaking it is to lose a well loved dog. I feel for you and completely understand how having something as annoying as this "expletive deleted" gear warning problem can be when added on top of something seriously upsetting.

Check your inbox, I'm going to send a PM that is not gear shift related.

You have my sympathies upon the loss of your dog.

Mods, please pardon the temporary thread derailment; will try to be brief.

Thanks for sharing; sounds like a nice spec. Good point about the rails and black. We may be inclined to order them next time. Of the current color offerings, we're thinking Sparkling Silver for it's dirt hiding abilities and elegance.

Grrrrr... I was fearing that might eventually happen!

So very sorry to hear about your faithful friend. We are in the throes of making "the decision" with our 16 yr. old girl. She is now blind, deaf, and suffering from CCD (Canine Cognitive Disorder) along with impaired kidney and liver function. (Sounds really bad, I know, and as if the decision should be easy, but the many meds. are keeping her fairly energetic and happy for now. It has become a daily vigil.) I hope the pain of your loss is tempered with joy again soon.
