Self-closing AC vents
Self-closing AC vents
Hi,
With the moderate weather we've been having, I've been running my AC fan at maximum speed (without running the AC unit) and noticed a rather annoying problem. One of my AC vent on the dashboard would not stay open very long. I'd turn it open and after a few seconds, up to a minute or two, it'd close itself, as if has trouble staying open. However if I run the AC unit, the colder air apparently keep it open, so I'm wondering if there's something keeping the vent doors open that is not working correctly at normal temperature (60's, 70's)? Has anyone had this problem?

I've seen this on at least one car. I get the impression that the friction required to hold the vent doors open is insufficent and with higher blower speeds, the air actually closes the vent. Ask your dealer to replace the vent assembly.
). The other poster is correct in that there doesn't seem to be enough friction for the particular vent to stay open at full speed. In any case, I've discovered that the vent will stay open if I use fan speed that is one step below the full fan speed. Thanks!
