Electrical Gremlin...HELP!
Electrical Gremlin...HELP!
Try this one out. Hopped in my 2002 MCS to drive home tonight and the driver window doesnt work but the passenger does. I try the driver switch and can hear clicking from around the center of the dash but nothing happens. I have the auto-up installed so I figure maybe that has gone south. I get home and access the back of the switch panel and remove the auto-up and try everything again. Now nothing works. So I hook up the auto-up again. Try the switches. Nothing from the drivers side and the passenger side goes down when I push the switch up but does nothing when I push down. So I take off the auto-up again and try everything out. Now the central locking switch makes the passenger side window go down and nothing else works on the switch panel. I can still use the key to lock the door and to put up the passenger side window and the key still locks and unlocks the door. Anybody have an exorcism ritual they can recommend?
Sounds like the gremlin has already done it's damage and left. I'm guessing something shorted out. When you short out silicon boards they can do some crazy things. As to what you would specifically need to replace i have no idea.
I wondered about that. Battery is disconnected. I will report results in a bit when I hook it back up.
Incidentally, before I disconnected the battery I turned on the running lights and didnt see any interior lights around either the switches or the heating, fan controls, etc. Can someone refresh my weak memory as to what lights show for those controls? I am wondering now if there is a fuse blown? The defrost light and the AC light both work.
Thanks for the suggestion DP, that did the trick. Well, it didnt do anything at first but when I reseated the connection it finally allowed everything to work again. I will reset my stereo tomorrow. Thanks again.
