Misfire?

Sounds like I have a cam in my car sometimes at idle but For What I know it is stock... it will start sounding like the timing is off and fire in bursts (instead of a smooth steady even firing sound) Any idea whata a matter? I have the iradium spark plugs and the mods in my sig, never use anything lower than 91 octane...

The weird firing/rough idle will go away and come back every once in a while, my a/f ratio is 11:1 but not really the same when i dynod all 3 pulls...

Any ideas?

when was the last time you changed your plug wires? I just replaced my old 8mm Magnecor wires w/a set from Custom Mini Shop ... no more misfires/engine stumbling between 1-3K rpms under moderate load.

If you rule that out try to swap in a known good coil pack...

If it's a fueling problem vs firing (electrical) it gets more complicated but I'd start w/ the injectors (again check connections, swap in known good ones, check for leaks, etc.) and work back to the tank.

What plugs you running?

Densos will go bad pretty fast. If you have your old plugs give them a try. But misfires will throw codes for sure. Check the terminals on the plug wires for corrosion. Sand or whatever to clean them off.

There is a post (or maybe a sticky) around here somewhere for stumbling/stalling. My car will go from a perfect idle, to a rough idle (your description is spot-on with what mine does). Sounds like it's about to stall, but mine never seems to do that. Blip the throttle, and the rough idle (usually) goes away.

I took it in to the dealer for this problem, and they told me that it is "normal" for these MINIs to run rough occasionally. Others on the thread I mentioned have had their dealers reflash the engine controller to fix the problem.

Something that seemed to work for me: I fueled up once with regular unleaded (otherwise I use premium), and oddly enough I haven't had the idle issue since. No other changes to the car...

Might be worth it to look for that thread...I'll try to find it in a sec...
