I have almost the same issue. The clutch is just all over the place. Sometimes it grabs low with me almost stalling because of that and the other time it will grab much higher resulting in some tiny slip/overrev. This is probably the worse clutch feel I've had recently in any car. I'm pretty dissapointed, but i guess this is the way MINI clutch is. Probably weak pressure plate problem or some iffy clutch plate material. You can't even get the wheels to spin with fast shift to 2nd.
I don't need a performance clutch stock as it's kind of pointless in MINI but better/consistent feel would be appreciated.

How many miles on the car? Has the clutch slave cylinder ever been replaced? If not it may be something you want to look into. The symptoms you described could easily be the manifestation of a failing slave cylinder.

Car has 22500 miles and still under both factory programs. I'll have to address this at my Inspection I due in 5k miles. It's not major issue as it's very slight difference and regular person may not even notice but it sort of annoys me sometimes having driven better feeling cars in the past

this is what i mean it doesn't seem to slip just engage low or mid way if i try to let the clutch out fast the car bounces a bit through all the gears this is at higher revs but it is annoying. if i shift at 3000 it's fine higher i get that bounce or more like a shaking. not really a big deal i just was wondering if this meant my clutch might be going out

^^^^ could have something to do with rev level in relation to trans rotation. which will happen at higher revs, harder to rev match at higher revs.

rallymaniac - i would second the slave cylinder idea from above.
