dealer service interval
dealer service interval
I did a search but can't find answer to this specific question. I don't like to wait some 12 to 13K mi. for oil change, so I paid for one myself about 6.5K after the last dealer service. I'm now receiving a service notice from the dealer, and by my calcs it is about right - would have been 12K since the last one dealer did. But, the shop that I paid to change my oil and filter reset the service interval. My Cooper is still under warranty, so this service should be at no charge to me. Will the dealer have any problem performing the service gratis to me given that the onboard service interval indicator now says the oil doesn't need changing for another 7K miles?
How long has it been between changes? They do a 1 year minimal use change also. They may also just look in their records and see that you should need one, although my car thought that it could go almost 20k before it was going to trigger a call for an oil change. Yikes!
Next time you have an outside shop do an oil service (between dealer services), tell them to not reset the service indicator. That way the dealer is happy, you're happy, and the car is happy. Win/win.
