Windshield smashed!!
Windshield smashed!!
Awesome!! On my way into work this morning, I passed by a Waste Management trash truck on a back road. It hit some low branches and one of these branches hit my windshield and smashed it significantly
It's bad enough where there are pieces of glass on my dash, so apparently there's a hole in the windshield. I stopped by the police station where an officer left a voice mail for the manager of the trash company informing them of this. I since had to file an insurance claim and should have the windshield replaced tomorrow morning to the tune of $200 (my deductible).
Since then, I have spoken with the manager of the trash company and he seems willing to work with me to get this resolved. My insurance company stated they are really not liable since there is no way they can avoid such a thing from occurring unless they traveled on a different road. I can see that but I think the manager did the right thing by contacting me and trying to work with me.
Anyway, just thought I would share my unfortunate event with you all. I hope it doesn't rain from now until the time when the windshield gets replaced. Thanks for listening!

What does your insurance company mean by "unless they traveled on a different road"? An unavoidable collision is just that, unavoidable. Your insurance company should take care of this at no cost to you. May I ask who you have?
I think they are saying this. It was an uncontrollable situation on the part of the trash truck because they could not anticipate or avoid hitting the branches. It's not their fault the limbs on the trees were cut so low. So they are stating that the trash truck nor the company is liable for the damages. The only way this all could've been avoided is if the trash truck took a different road which is obviously not possible. This is what I gathered from our conversation earlier this morning. My insurance company is Travelers.
I can see their point but at the same time, I have a smashed windshield which was no fault of my own. Believe me, if I could avoid shelling out my own money to pay for this I would. If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them. Thanks!

Some states are really backwards when it comes to glass coverage. Here in Florida is the law for insurers to provide $0 deductible glass repair/replacement coverage. It is illegal to drive here with a broken windshield.
Well, I just got the windshield replaced earlier this morning. It looks very good. The guy who replaced it said the windshield which was smashed was not the original windshield. That's news to me and to the guy who sold it to me. I suppose it's not a huge deal, but it would've been nice to know that prior to buying the car.
Nevertheless, it looks like new.

Hmm, do you know how the insurance policy would work in MA. for road debris? I was on the highway a couple months ago, and a rock flew up on my windshield and significantly left a mark. It's not cracked or spreading, just a huge chip the size of a quarter. Would insurance cover this with or without a deductible? Or should the state cover this, since they should be cleaning road debris?

I give up...how?
Oh wait, was that a quiz question or not? Seriously though, I have no idea about MA's policy. I'm not from there nor have I ever been there. Sounds like a nice idea though for an extended weekend bike trip.
