OBD Codes - Temp Sensor - Body Repairs

I had an accident last night which seemed to do some damage. The temp gauge says -40, so the A/C won't work. I have an OBD gauge, but can't find a list of codes. Anyone know where to find one. I'm getting P0073 and P110F. Know where to find a list?

Also, if you're 50 miles from a dealer, where do you go for body work? I contacted the local BMW dealer since I figured they would do good work and MINIs are BMWs.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm in Eastern PA. Near Allentown.

Thanks,

James

You can actually google OBD II codes on the internet.

I have found that to be useful. I have a peake reader amd instructions so if you don't find it there, just let me know.

P0073 is the ambient air temp sensor. This may reference the sensor mounted inside the front bumper. What kind of accident was it? Maybe it is damaged. I had the same code after the dealer had my Mini's front bumper repainted. I read it with a Scangauge II and didn't clear it. I wanted the dealer to see that it had the code. It's been a few months since I read the code and today the code cleared itself. About a month ago I had the heating system go nuts and always thought it was something to do with this code.

There are some codes listed in this thread.

I can't find the second one you mentioned.

I found one for P0110 which is intake air temp. Maybe the F is for Fahrenheit.

I got the codes off a Scangauge II too. I don't understand why they can't provide this info, or a link to the meanings of the codes. Their suggestion is to Google "fault codes". Great help from the manufacturer of a product. I think I was happier when it didn't show a code.

Some of the generic OBDII data, such as ECT (engine coolant temp) and IAT (intake air temp) use a -40 to 215 range degF range, with -40 typically indicating open circuit. Check the sensor wire from the suspect sensor and make sure that it isn't damaged all the way from the sensor to where it connects to the harness. At least on older cars (90s era), disconnecting ECT and IAT sensors will result a -40 value, similar to what you're seeing.

Hope it helps,
Jeff

There are other OBDII readers that include definitions for the codes. It's just not a feature the Scangauge has.

You can get error codes off of the display on the tach, no?
Of course, they are in some other BMW language, not obd and I for one haven't seen an index to them on this forum.

Some codes are in the Tach, but not all. The P0073 code I had was only readable through the OBDII connector. The tach said everything was OK.
