Request - please help

Hey All,

Especially taller drivers, but anyone with and R56, would you please check your driver's side mirror and tell me how "high" your mirror will adjust. I was told that mine was normal when compared with two other R56s on the lot, but I'd swear it should be able to pivot higher. Basically, mine articulates fine enough that I can pivot it way low (too low IMO) to see the ground around the rear tire, but it won't pivot high enough that I can see up more towards the sky - not that I want to see the sky, but I ideally need it to adjust about a 1/2" more for safe viewing.
Thanks!
Greg

I'm 6'5" and have no issues with the mirrors. You can set it low by motor and then manually "crunch" it up a bit; now it's perched at the upper side of its usable range. If you're leary of doing that on your own, have the dealer do it. There's manual adjustment range a-plenty.

thanks arn

Thanks Arn,
I'll try your method. Maybe I need to be a little more forceful with my "crunch". I thought it was just my car, but your reply and my trying out two more minis on the lot (whose mirrors didn't pivot any farther than mine ), I had to apologize to the MA after originally thinking mine was "defective".

I ride with the seat all the way down too --- not all the way back though and not reclined much.
Have you fiddled with the seat position?

mirror

Sounds like my seating position is near-identical to yours. I've messed with it some, but...Makes me wonder if shorter drivers who have the seat way forward and elevated have any issues with the driver's mirror angle. Guess not.

I have the same problem.
I drove back to the dealer right after I picked it up.
Another MINI had the same adjustment ranges so, I guess they all do.
I'm just at the edge, where it's okay for me.
I tried moving it manually the day I picked up the car, but it didn't seem like it was going to move.

I personally don't think it'll crunch any more.
It seemed like it was up against something.
I think I have a long trunk-I'm only 5'11".
I've bounced my head on sunroofed cars in the past though.

thanks

Thanks for the data point. I was really surprised relative to our 06, with which I have no problem whatsoever. I sent MINIUSA a "recommendation" to have it addressed.

You should open this thread again if you ever find something out.
The passenger side mirror seems to swivel so you can see the sky.
Maybe for you it'd be worthwhile taking the mirror apart, grinding off impinging parts, or whatever, but for me, it's just barely ok.

Not the answer I wanted to hear, but this is what MINIUSA wrote back:

I just spoke with Brian, the service manager at MINI of Sterling. We did some research and confirmed the mirrors are designed differently in our newer models. Unfortunately, there is not an option for reprogramming or physically altering the mirror to compensate for the height adjustment. I apologize we are not able to assist you with your inquiry.
If there are further questions I can assist with, please feel free to drop me an e-mail. I will be happy to lend a hand.

That's too bad. It sounds like it affects you more than me. I guess one could take a mirror apart and mess with it, but that might be ri$ky.
