On start-up - scratching noise
On start-up - scratching noise
I attempted making a video/sound clip, but the engine is too loud to pick up the noise on my camera very well. And when I tried different points of view, it stopped doing it.
So here's the symptoms:
If the car has no been started recently, a noise comes from the engine bay (close to the driver). The noise happens approximately right after the engine starts and revs itself. After it reaches the peak of the "self-rev", it begins to whine down, right? This noise comes in RIGHT after the peak of that rev. So right when it starts to whine down.
Like I said; it only does this if the car has not been started recently. And that does not mean warmed up. Just started, and turned right back off is enough to make the noise not come up on the next ignition.
I plan on purchasing the BRISK sparks when I order my exhaust from ALTA, but I'd like to know what this is. And there's no certified MINI shops for about 300mi from here.
Any ideas?
edit: the sound is similar to that of if I were to hold the key in the 'start' position for too long.
