Instrument Cluster
Instrument Cluster
Has anyone had there instrument cluster go out? I took 02 MCS in and it cost $100 just so they could tell me it would cost $500 to replace. Only thing I think it effects is the tach. I can still drive with out that. Just want to see if it has happened to anyone else and what they did. Thanks!
You could probably source the parts for cheaper from Pelican Parts. Then, there is a how-to on here somewhere for changing the main gauge faces; the disassembly to access the gauge face is most of the work for replacing the entire unit.
If it is only your tach that is bad, and the speedo and fuel and temp work, then that is a simple job to replace. It is only 2 screws on the back side of the tach's mounting plate and a wire to disconnect. Then the new tach will hook right up and work.

Thanks! That's what I was thinking. Then I went to a local guy who works on my MINI and he said he couldn't do it because of all the computer reprogramming that only the MINI service dept has. Is that true?!?
If it is only your tach that is out, that is a plug and play operation. The compter is elsewhere - this merely displays what the computer is doing. I am 95% sure that replacing the tach assembly will not require any additional programing.
