I've read of a few other people having problems with "blotchy" paintwork on their pure silver Minis. I have a 2003 Pure Silver MCS that has the blotchy paint (much darker in various areas). I noticed a problem once I brought the car home and thought that this was just how the paint looks on a Mini (until I looked at another pure silver Mini). Has anyone had any luck at getting either Mini or their dealer to correct the problem?

Thanks
Jim

Thanks for the link! I see a lot of people at Mini2 are having the same problems. I guess I'll schedule an appointment with my dealer for an inspection.

I've heard that they will initially deny that there is a problem until you puch the issue.I'm taking mine in next week. Please let me know what happens.

I have too. Fortunately I have a great relationship with the dealership, and they have always helped me to address any issues I have had with my vehicles. I have worked with the head of Post Sales for BMW beofre when I had some concerns about the paint on another vehicle, and that process was very easy.

Unfortunately the mottled paint bothers me enough that I would consider getting rid of the vehicle. That along with my Stutter and Rough Idle may be reason enough for me to go across the street to VW (hmmm, Anniversary GTI or wait for an R32... ok, enough blasphemy here).

I will keep you posted.

Maybe mine is not as bad, or beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

But I kind of liked that grainy look compared to a more "solid" silver. It is more noticeable on the doors than anywhere else.

Now you have me wondering......

Red

I too thought that the variation in color was simply the "Mini Uniqueness" until I saw a pure silver Mini with without the "uniqueness."

I just meant that Mini does manufacture pure silver Minis without the paint blotchiness.

I better start keeping my eyes open. But I never see a PS stopped long enough to check it out. Will check a dealer lot.

Oh, sorry I didn't understand Res... . But, I guess you are right. People are actually having this problem, but my PS/B looks great. You all had me wondering but I can even park it in direct sun, and it still looks like a great silver MINI. My father's BMW is silver and doesn't have this problem either.

No problem Cooptime. The fact that my silver MCS sits in the garage next to the flawless paint on my silver 993 S makes it that much worse.

Did a Mini rep take a look at your paint yet? I'm still waiting for a Mini rep to visit my dealer for an inspection. When I brought my Mini to the dealer yesterday for service, the service advisor made a comment that there was clearly a problem with the paint.

Not yet. I was planning on doing it at the same time as a software update which I have not heard back about.

I will keep you all posted....

Eric P.

BTW it seems to be more noticable now.
