Coolant Problem- Need Advice
Coolant Problem- Need Advice
Hi everyone,
I don't really know about cars, but I need advice from people who know what they're doing, so I came here.
I have a 2004 Mini that was flooded in a bad rain storm. The insurance company found a rebuilt engine, and the MINI Dealership in Baton Rouge, LA, put it in and everything. About 5 minutes after I picked it up, it overheated in the middle of traffic. They towed it back, and the fixed it the next day, saying a hose wasn't clamped properly or something. I picked it up and all was fine. A couple of days later, I started to hear what sounded like liquid slushing around in the engine (my radio doesn't work, so it's easy to hear everything). A couple of weeks later, I was driving to New Orleans (about an hour away). i had it on cruise control the entire way, and it was fine. When I got stuck in traffic, the temperature gauge started going up and down. I exited, and it never overheated, but it came close. I had it towed back to the MINI dealer, and they said they didn't find anything wrong. It's been less than a week, and the liquid sound has started again, along with a thud like sound every time i stop. The sound isn't noticeable when I have the A/C really cold and really high. I've done some research, and it seems like they're might be air in the coolant tank. Does that sound like something it could be? And could any mechanic fix that? The MINI dealership here is run by a bunch of incompetent retards. And info or advice would be really appreciated!
Thanks,
Colleen

Colleen, There may still be air in the system, it is difficult to bleed. More than likely, your cooling fan is not coming on , either at all, or when it is supposed to. Perhaps someone here can recommend a MINI shop close to you, or is there another dealer you can take it to? I would certainly ask the dealer that looked at it to look harder

possibly air in the lines, possible that the fan isn't kicking on, my 944 did this exact thing. It is also possible that the water pump is failing.
+1 for taking it back to the dealer for a closer look
