MotorMount Issue

I was cleaning the engine bay today and I noticed something on the motormount. It looks like the thread is coming undone. I dont know how its doing it or if its doing anything wrong. I dont feel anything wrong either. My car is a 03 MCS with CAI and 15% pulley and has 21K. No extended warranty.

Any ideas on what caused it and do you think its hurting Electra?

I'm sure it's fine, but I'll get back to you when I check mine and see if anything seems awry.

I had a chance to take a look at mine and it appears to be exhibiting the same issue, so I wouldn't worry about it and don't think it's any cause for concern.

Saw the same thing on a used '03 S today. I stopped by a local dealer (non-MINI) to look at the car at the request of a friend. When I popped the bonnet, I looked for the normal suspects...mushroomed shock towers/cracked strut plates (no apparent damage) and leaky motor mount. That's when I saw the "thread" as shown in the brigadoonb's post. Didn't notice anything during the test drive (i.e., clunking when accelerating, letting off of accelerator, etc).

That's not a problem at all... it's just the way it was designed.

That particular motor mount was replaced on my 03 MCS after it spilled good amount of oil, and the new one had the exact same "thread" as you indicated out of the box.

You should have seen the face of the mechanic who replaced the motor mount, after I handed him the part. "The motor mount is being held by a F'ing shoe lace, eh?" he said
