I just noticed today that some people have had problems with their power steering packing up. A couple also mentioned having installed a skid plate. I have one that I planned on installing after autocross season is over but am now not sure. How many people have had problems with their power steering and have installed a skid plate or maybe did not have a skid plate? Inquiring minds want to know.

So is this going to be a skid plate thread or a power steering problem thread? We already have a P/S thread. If this is a skid plate thread, the jury's still out on this. Does enough cooling air get to the pump? I know that I drove in the 4th July parade at walking speed with 21 other MINIS and I was the only one with a plate and I lost my P/S 3 times but it came back!

Never had a problem with my p/s fan and I have my skid plate on since jan this year

 

I have had my skid plate on since Feb '03 and have had no problems with my p/s fan or p/s in general. 6K miles and counting.

 

For now, let's try to keep one thread on this.
