I just purchased a 2003 Cooper, and after I replaced the front rotors (rusted from sitting) I noticed a almost rattling sound when in second gear. ONLY when in second and while accelerating. Is that as bad as I'm thinking it is? Am I looking at a new tranny?

Also, when sitting idling, I noticed a clicking sound coming from the rear of the car. It's only while idling (unless I just don't hear it while driving) Usually a few clicks, followed by a thump.

I have an 03 s as well. The clicking followed by a thump is a normal occurence. Its an ABS test that the car does every once in a while. Do a search on ABS test and see what you find. The other sound you have in second gear is unusual. I would take it to a mechanic to have it checked.....

 

Well, its good to hear that the clicking is just an ABS test. I'll be sure to consult myself about the tranny sound :P
