Ok, I am beginning to get really annoyed at the frequency with which I have to reset the window dipping function: on average, twice a week now. This is even after I have had the drivers side motor and controller replaced because the window stopped working.

How often do you have to reset the window dip function?

M.

I've never had to...and I've had mine since August 23, 2002!

Didn't even know that you could do this on your own?! How does one accomplish this should it be needed?

Not terribly often- usually every third time after I've run through a car wash (OK, stop being horrified- I go to a local "touchless"!) and I open my door and the window doesn't jog down. I am worried about it though- I'm curious to see how British long-term build quality meshes with German design detail. A friend with an X5 has demonstrated that South Carolina build quality doesn't mesh with German design detail on that one...

This has only happened to me once. Somehow when the door was open and I put up the window it didn't go up all the way. So the next day I could here air coming in from somewhere...so all I did was open the door and roll up the window again. All fixed. I don't know why this happened...maybe someone else will know???

I hope this helps a bit.

When you open the door the window goes down like 1/4". Close it, it goes back up again. Mine often stops doing that, and I notice it when II try to close the door and it won't, or only when slammed real hard and then the window overlaps the trim.
The bad thing is if your passenger slams the door and gets it closed ok when the dip stops to function, so you don't notice the overlap. Then you walk away, and it starts raining. You can imagine the rest

To reset, open window all the way, close door, roll window up and hold the up button for another 7-10 seconds after it has reached the top. This will reset the dip function.

I just wanted to know how often this happens to others to get an idea whether it's worth complaining to the dealer about this. I guess it is.

The electrical system in this car is REALLY beginning to annoy me.
Sorry for the rant!

M.

Have never had that problem. I have the problem where the boot latch gets out of sequence and won't close.

Everybody gets something from a small list of problems. This is apparently a feature of British cars. They would say it helps build character.

after 18,000 miles I can say ... never. I would have a long terse conversation with the dealer. The only problem I have had is the leaking overflow. The car has been great. Sorry about yours.

I have having to reset mine constantly 03 MCS 11/02 build. it would work few days or week then stop dipping. seemed if you put windows up with door closed he dipping stopped working. if door was open when windows put up it would dip and work ok. Took it to dealer, they replace many of controllers, etc and tried 3 separate fixes, finally replaced controllers. worked for few weeks now its back to same old thing as before not dipping all the time. its back once again in few weeks.

Reset mine maybe three times in about 7 weeks of ownership. I don't recall ever having to reset the driver's door...only the passenger side (which very rarely gets used). Maybe a sticky switch or something? I would assume the same switch is tied into both the dome light and the window dipper but I've never noticed if the dome light fails to work when the window doesn't dip.

Havent had to yet on my '03 MCS. I did have to tear apart the back of the boot to fix the latch the other day, it had gotten stuck open. So far so good there.

Mine is Dec 6 02 build MCS. Maybe they had some bad parts back then. Happened again today, and it's really ticking me off now!
