Poll: how often do you have to reset window dip function?

Next week I will have had my MIni for one year and the problem you described with the window not dipping ocurred to my MIni once about a month. I thought something was wrong but was too busy at the time to address the problem and forgot about it. Just last week I noticed it was working again correctly, all by itself! Go figure!

yep, happens to my driver side every so often, like 1-2x/week. no trouble with passenger, but that's less used. mine is ~12/02 build MC '03. i haven't tried resetting yet, but i will when i remember to. thus far, i've just rolled part way down and roll back up, and it's ok. just a hassle to have to stick the key back in the ignition and do the window thing.

To keep the seal,
Happened to me, after only having the car for 2 days! Turned out, loose battery terminals. Car wouldn't respond in the morning, not a cold start issue, just nothing. Checked terminals, they were loose, tightened them down.
When I got in the car, windows didn't go down, had to reset the thingee.
Check yer terminals (worth a shot)

>>>>When you open the door the window goes down like 1/4". Close it, it goes back up again.

>>What is the purpose of this "dip"?
The MINI is a small car with big doors. When you close the doors air pressure increases and the automatic window "dip" acts like a pressure relief valve. This allows doors to close easier.

Clarification...close "easier" should have said close properly. "Dip" is so window doesn't deflect outward and not seal properly in the weather strips. Without the auto dip you would get wind noise and leaks.

So far its been 3 times and I'm starting to get annoyed. I've had so many little things annoy me on this car that it's getting really old. I have a list of about 6 things that I will have the dealer look at when my "S" goes in for more power steering work. I'll bet none of the little things get fixed.

Well,
my dip reset frequency has died down a bit. This leads me to the curious observation that this problem had a peak of intensity after I first got the car (about 2 times per week) and then declined, and then again it peaked right around the time the window motor or controller failed on the driver side and was replaced, I had to reset it about 2x per week just before the failure and for some time afterwards, and now things have quited down again. I'm glad the frequency of resets has gone down, but it does not make me feel any more comfortable about the electrical system in the car, it is looking more MS Windows like all the time. Is MS a british company?
It's curious too how some people have not had this problem at all, and others have had it frequently. I'll keep monitoring things. I do have a new theory for this failure: mine appeared to occur very often after motoring with windows and sunroof open. Then, pulling into the parking garage I would press the button for sunroof close first, and while it was sliding shut I would hold both window close buttons up at the same time. Maybe this 'triple action' confused the controller.
