Bentley Manual Help Needed for Wipers

My 02 MCS has a problem with the windshield wipers in that they dont work. The last snow storm deposited a fair amount of snow on the windshield that my wipers moved an inch to clear off but then stopped. I got out and removed the snow on the windshield but the wipers didnt work after that. I started another thread looking for solutions and the only suggestion I received was to check the fuses. I have checked both the kick panel and engine bay fuse for the wipers and have swapped in a known good fuse with no change in results. Owning a copy of the Bentley manual is on my list of things to acquire but I dont own one yet. I was hoping that someone who does might be able to look up some information on the front wiper system and tell me if they have any information about possible solutions. Unfortunately my car is out of warranty and the nearest dealer is 1.5 hours away. Any and all help would be appreciated. I am beginning to exhibit withdrawal symptons from not driving the car.

Can or have you ck'ed power at the fuse? you then need to ck power at the wiper motor itself. if you then have power it maybe the switch. But start with the power and work your way back. I don't have a Bently manual but will ck the one I do own and see how its wired.

if you pushed a lot of snow you may have stripped the wiper arms . have someone run the wipers and see if the pivots are moving . you may need to pull the arms . try to see if they're moving under the arms . .

I have replaced the fuses with ones known to work and with new fuses with no result. While any failure is possible I would be surprised to find there was some problem with where the fuse seats. I can see the motor but it is under the cowl so it is difficult to get to and I cant even see where the power connects to the motor. Guess it is time to spring for a Bentley manual so I can figure out the best way to access the motor and the metal arms that connect between the wiper head and the wiper motor.

I guess the amount is subjective but there really wasnt that much on the windshield, enough so that the wipers moved about an inch or two then stopped. After they moved I could move them across the windshield and back with a little resistance, almost like something may have become dislodged but now they wont move in either direction and they are back at the park position. Maybe I should try a bit more force to see if I can get them to move? Either way the motor makes no sound.

your wiper relays are locatedin the back of the relay box under the hood . run / park on left and fast speed on right .

Well, with the help of a friend I finally had time to look at the car. I tested the fuses again and verified that they all work fine. Switching the windshield wiper switch on the column on and off triggers one of the relays and switching the relays shows that both relays are working. That really only leaves the motor as the problem. I was hoping that someone with a Bentley manual could take a picture or scan a copy of the wiper motor remove and replace section so that I can see what is involved in replacing the motor since that seems to be where the problem lies. As usual any and all help is appreciated.

not sure if ther'es an overload on the motor . doubt it as a fuse would be more convenient . when you pull the plug to the motor see if you can feed 12v to the motor with jumpers and see if you get anything .

I think that is a good idea herbie but unfortunately it requires taking off the cowl to get to the motor. The wiring harness connection to the motor is below the motor itself and the opening is too tight to get to it by reaching in there. I just didnt have the time or place to do that today. I have a friend who owns a NAPA store who just started getting parts from a supplier of BMW/MINI parts who will be checking to see if they sell a replacement motor. At least then if I take the thing all apart to get to the motor I can replace it at the same time if the motor turns out to be bad. Frankly, I cant see it being anything else right now.
