Serp belt?

My 06 MC has just recently started making a whining noise from the left side of the engine bay (facing the front of th car). It seems to be coming from a belt, serpentine belt? , and the belt has a bunch of marks on it about every quarter inch or so, and have been getting worse. The marks are the texture of the belt being rubbed off, and most are almost woren flat now.

I am going to set up an appointment with the dealer this, just trying to understand the problem, and how long its going to take.

There might be some gravel in the pulley tracks that is destroying your belt. It should not take the dealer more than 10 minutes to remove the old belt, gravel, and put a new belt on.

Be warned a whining noise coming from the front in that area, sometimes predates a charger failure. As the gear that drive the aux output shaft for the water pump make a whining sounds before they go. Something to be weary of, if it is the gears they will get progressively louder till they go. And, by other peoples experiences it takes between 8-12k miles tile they are toast. Not trying to scare you, just want you to be informed of all possibilities.

I'm having the same problem. I get whining on the left side of the engine. The only differences are, it doesn't happen all the time, and I haven't noticed any marks on the belt. I've got an 04 MCS with over 46k on it. At this point, I can only assume that its the supercharger, which scares me a bit...I don't quite have the money to throw down on any serious repairs. So after your visit to the dealer, keep me informed when you've got a minute!

Are these marks going all the way across the width of the belt, spaced by 1/4 to 1/2"? If so, you may have a bad idler pulley like I had. My idler started whining and squeaking because of a bad bearing. Essentially, it was seizing every revolution or so, creating these "wear-bars" across the belt.

Hope that helps. Warranty covered that for my '06.
