Odd center gauge speedo buzzing and twitching

OK so here is an odd one. My center dash gauge does this weird buzz/twitch thing in cold weather. I get in to start the car, put the key in and turn it to the first (power on) position. As soon as the power is on the speedo needle rapidly bounces up and down a MM or two for a couple of seconds. The whole thing emits this grating buzzing while it's twitching. Once it finishes it's fit it works just fine.

I don't have Nav it's just the basic dog dish speedo.

This just started once the cold weather kicked in and scared the crap out of me the first time it did it. Now it's just annoying.

Any ideas as to what's up?

Apparently it is "normal." I do not know why it does it though!

In older threads the story goes its a reset of the speedo, this may happen because of the temp, the cars battery is working hard to start the car and that kicks off the reset. My car will do the reset when temps are around 15 or lower. I have had the battery tested and it tests good. Its just your cars way of letting you know its cold out!

Thanks for the info!

I'm glad to know that this isn't another repair bill I have to explain to my wife.

I guess I will file this along with the dash rattles and worthless rear wiper sprayer under the "cute quirks" that the owners manual mentions.

Apparently not uncommon: My '05 has done it twice in the last 6 months. To quote a post on an older thread: "It's the ghost of Lucas."

LOL!

My Dad was a big British car guy when he was in High School. He had a sweet Alpine. Anyway, he used to tell me this joke:

Why do Brits drink warm beer?

Lucas refrigerators.

Just in case you are not aware, you can adjust the direction of the rear sprayer. The nozzle itself has a notch that you can insert a screwdriver into and twist to adjust the direction of the squirt. Takes some trial and error to get it to your liking though.
