doors won't lock... Help!

Yes, I have done a search... 2002 S with 58,000 miles (no warranty).
The power door locks unlock after locking, both from the remote, and from the interior switch. After enough times, the doors will not even lock.
I reset the ecu (by disconnecting the negative on the battery) and it fixed it temporarily, but the problem resurfaced. The last time I tried this it did not work.
This is a problem for all the locks in the car.
The only solution I have is to pull the door lock fuse to manually lock the car. This of course negates the use of the rear hatch.
Any ideas?

Sounds like a problem relating to the driver side lock actuator... Seems like the car always thinks the driver side door is open - will not lock vehicle if door is open.

That sounds like a good start, but would it be random, and able to be reset by resetting the ecu?

Another thing is the key sense switch in the ignition if MINI has one. If the body computer thinks the key is in the ignition then it would let you lock the car (lock out preventative measures). If the car beeps with the door open and the key is not in the ignition then its pretty possible that could be your problem.

This is what my MINI is doing - even with the key away from the car, the chime indicates the key is in the ignition - is there a fix?

Has anyone else dealt with this? Mine ('05 MCS) sometimes does the following, sometimes all at the same time but sometimes only some:

Ignition keeps beeping after removing key and opening door

Brake lights stuck on

Key fob won't lock doors

Interior dash lights stay on

Turning the key in the door from outside does lock all doors.

Eventually the brake lights shut off.

It's intermittent but is getting more frequent. We don't get much rain in LA and I've checked the BCM but it's always been dry and looks brand new.

Did you check the pins on the BCM ? Sometimes it looks dry and then looking at the plug and the box are corroded on the inside.

Also check the main Car battery first, when the voltage drops the MINI acts up. With a bad battery.

Thanks

Thanks...the BCM looks so new and dry I didn't even take it apart. It looks so tight in there I got lazy about unplugging it.

But the bit about the battery is interesting. It behaves weird after short trips, longer trips it seems ok. And if it's ok but I turn ignition on and roll windows down then up, then it acts weird again. It could be the battery voltage....I'll check it.

You are welcome.

Thanks for the update, double check on that battery for sure and if it have a voltage drop. Might need load tested by a local shop or part store.

The battery after a 15 minute drive reads 12.4v with car off. When I turn igntion on, roll windows down/up, then turn off, the battery is then at 12.2v...

Seems a bit low, I'll stop by the store to get it tested for real though. This could explain why it seems to be worse when I take short trips (not a lot of charging time) and at night time (Xenons have been on too).

12.25 is about 50% capacity state of charge, 12.05 is about 25%.
It may take more than rolling the windows up and down once to remove
the surface charge after running it. Try putting on the high beams for
a a several minutes then turn everything off and measure again.

+1 on getting that checked. With loading the electrical with all options on is a good test.
