MYMINI2007,

I felt terrible about your MINI - check engine light and stalled - also new transmission !! I will be so upset! - even with just the 1-2 gear grind, I am losing my confidence with BMW products, to me a brand new car shouldn't grind it's gear...period.

As you know my mechanic was unable to duplicate the problem with my car, so they're saying my transmission has no problem, if you have a chance to talk to your mechanic, can you ask them what is the actual problem with the transmission, I am sure we all wants to know.

Thanks and good luck!

He then told me the car would need a new transmission, current mileage is 8900. I just got a call from him on Friday, asking me to bring the car in, so they can swap them out.

My question to the group is, does anyone know what parts are included in a standard transmission swap? Will I get a new clutch? Curious to see if the new transmission and old clutch will sync up, or if I will have another service call because of that.

Saddened by the whole deal, but I guess I am happy they are looking to make it right.
im sure they will just put a new clutch in...i read in another forum that some1 had a transmission replacement and the dealer just decided to replace the clutch as well because they already had they tranny out

Let me join the transmission replacement club. I didnt get what I would call a grinding noise. Mine had a rattle in the clutch when disengaged. After i would push it in even half and inch would sound normal. I guess it was enough for them to replace it. They've had the car for one week now. Unfotunately, replacing the trans wont fix the cold engine rattle which I also brought it in for. Thats a different thread! Oh Mini, wish you were more reliable. I still love the car though.

Well, the CEL cause is some sort of fuel system malfunction, so I am receiving a new catalytic converter, and some other parts. The transmission is also being replaced as we speak.

its weird sometimes i wish my clutch/tranny would go sometime so i can get it replaced, yet i dont want to think my car isnt reliable....see this is my first manual ever so that first couple weeks of mastering the clutch has me hope that i didnt take so much life off it that right when my warrantee expires it dies....i never really dragged the clutch so i guess more of anything that would be stressed are my engine mounts...im only at 2800 miles tho so I dont want anything too major going on yet haha, but maybe sometime down the road before the warrantee expires i can get a free clutch

Yikes

So the car is back, with all the replacement parts installed, and the car is running, fine, minus the flat I got on Saturday, . Question now, is the car has been in the shop for 4 major problems in 4.5 months. I have all of the old service orders, and I didn't pay much attention, but on further inspection I notices, only Re-Manufactured parts have been used on a car that has only 10,000 miles. I am at this point livid about this whole deal. I really want Mini to buy the car back at this point, and I plan on asking them to this week, when my corporate escalation representative calls me back. Any suggestions?

Really sorry to hear about your problems.
But I don't understand how they could have remanufactered parts for a new veichle. I would surely think it was repaired with factory new parts.
Good luck

My 'new' transmission is in fact remanufactured. I asked them about it and they said that there were no new transmissions available. Hard to believe! I'm not believing much they are telling me lately.

All RMFD

Everything listed on my very extensive work order, except the transmission fluid, is listed RMFD. This whole situation is out of control at this point, and I look forward to speaking with the Mini representative later this week, where Mini can explain 4 "used" parts on a brand new car. Also how is the warrenty going to work, is it going to be extended? Am I S.O.L after my warranty period? Highly agitated is the mode I am in at this point.

Wow
This just blows me away, I don't see how a manufacter could do warrenty work on a new car and use remanufactured parts. Where would remanufactures parts come from, usualy these are secound party rebuilt parts. These parts aren't rebuilt at the dealer are they, then called remanufatured parts?

Other Minis

I would guess that the R56 shares some of the same parts as other bmw/minis, I would also guess that there have been other failures at some point in the past, and these were sent back to the manufacturer for a re-man on them. I know these are from the factory, because we had to wait for the parts. Still no news from Mini, I think that they may call Wed or Thurs. I have a whole list of issues, I hope they are ready to hear.

I was told that the rmfd trans will stay under warranty along with the rest of the car. 4yr 50k. Which means after about 17k driven already I come up with a 33k warranty on this one. They gave me all this about how the remanufactered is in some ways better than new because of such extensive testing. It all gets frustrating when you know you are being lied to about every problem with the car. Rant over....for now.

What's the total elapsed time that your car was at the dealership for warranty work? If it exceeds 30 days, most states call it a lemon.

I wouldn't be happy with used parts; I'd push for some action. I'd further argue that they're choice for providing your car with used parts has resulted in a loss of value to you and that you should be compensated.

Your choice of verbage should be chosen for your desired outcome. Do you want a new car, new parts, or some cash? I personally think you got stiffed; what do you think? Don't be afraid to share your outrage with MINI and your dealer; they both want happy customers and as long as you remain rational they'll work with you.

Looks like this thread is dormant.

My 2010 MCS has an issue - won't go into 2nd gear when it's cold out (30 degrees). This happened consistently during the recent cold weather (first thing in the morning), but does not happen when the weather is warmer. We won't see 30 degree weather here in my part of Florida for another year or so.

Even now that the weather is warmer shifting from 1st to 2nd gear feels very notchy compared to the other gears.

Had it in for service and was told they could not reproduce the problem.

I'm wondering if I should push this further with the service department - maybe have them change the trans fluid for starters?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I have a similar issue. 99 times out of 100 everything is fine, but occasionally it's very difficult to shift into 1st gear at some point on my 10km commute. Shifting from 1st to 2nd is occasionaly a bit stiff as well, and sometimes it is tough to get it into R. More often than not everything is fine. I suppose I should take it in to get checked out, but I'm concerned they will not be able to replicate it, or I'll end up getting ripped off.

Despite how old this thread is, I am also part of the transmission replacement club. My original transmission only had 27k on it when it 'failed' (Read: was louder than normal so they replaced it).
