Maintenance Suggestions Please!

Hello Everyone and Happy Holidays.

I am about to hit 50k in my 02' MC and I was wondering what maintenance I should do? Ive kept up with oil changes and replacing the air filters. Im planning on replacing the brake pads and rotors as well. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks!

If you're gonna do some routine maintenance, change the serpentine belt. It's due at 60k, but for 30-some bucks and ten minutes under the hood, it's a no-brainer. That way, the old one is still good enough for an emergency backup to keep in the rear cubby hole.

couple of things i would recommend besides the drive belt is a coolant flush, if you haven't gotten one done in the past 2 years and do a complete inspection of the vehicle.

also do a battery/charge system test to have an idea on what conditions those items are at and just a full inspection.

I was thinking about a coolant flush as well. The battery should be fine its only a few months old. Thanks for the Help.

So far...

1. Brake Pads and Rotors
2. Oil Change
3. New Cabin Filter
4. Coolant Flush
5. Replace Serpentine Belt

Just wondering, are your pads and rotors still original? If they are not bad, don't replace them. if they are bad, pretened I wasn't here .

Few other things, more of a check 'em while you're at it; replace preventitively...

Wiperblades
Headlight bulbs
Check the rest of them (easier than going to court to proved you fixed it)
Brake fluid (flush if you haven't recently)
Check your pad thicknesses
Tread tire pressure (should every week, but this is a good check and rotate interval)

And after seeing the "lifetime" trans fluid @50k (shankrabbit's got a how to thread withpics of it coming out) I'd say 50k is a good time to check and replace that as well.

Check tourques on anything near the engine (wheels strut towers spark plugs mounts etc) and I think you're about safe.

The rotors are pretty shot. The fronts are still orginal and the rears are about 2 years old, but still should be replaced.

Thanks for all the tips. Ill start this weekend. Ill keep everyone updated.

Drew, I will replace the tranny fluid as well. I think it will help the shifting smoothness as well.

- Coolant change. Get some new OEM coolant and maybe a bottle of Water Wetter.
- Change tranny/gearbox oil. I recommend Redline synthetic oil. Check the owner's manual for the correct viscosity. Not sure if it is MTL or Gear Oil that is used.
- Brake Fluid flush. The Valvoline synthetic brake fluid that they have at most auto parts stores is pretty good. Suck out the fluid in the reservoir, refill with the new stuff and bleed the brakes as per the traditional routine.
- If you are hard core and doing the brakes, scrape off the crusty old brake dust from the calipers. Wear a breather if you do this as you don't want to inhale that dust.
- Spark plugs if you haven't changed them yet.
- Remove and check your tires and perhaps get an alignment if the wear looks off. Make sure you find a good shop to do the alignment or they might just make it worse...
- Clean/wash the back side of the rims while they are off and wash the fenderwells with a brush and some Simple Green.
- RainX on the glass
- Wipers
- Clean your door jams and hatch jams and lube the hinges.

have fun

It will help a lot! (especially if yours comes out black like mine did)

The best part of the "50K Maintenance" is that it is coupled with the "one step up program".

Why use OEM parts when for just a little bit more you can go one step up?

Rotors? Try slotted!
Trans. Fluid? Use Redline!
Wipers? Go Twin-charged! (wait a minute...)

Don't forget to perform a chasis lube at all of the fittings if equipped. It may also be beneficial to repack the wheel bearings (great opportunity to do a good cleaning of the inner portion of the wheels).
