Driving around the other day. It was warm. Had the air on max for a few minutes and some yellow thermometer looking light comes on. I am a bit frustrated right now with the car. when it get's cold, the yellow engine light has been coming on.

I am not liking the constant drama.

R56's don't have temp gauges unfortunately. We get stuck with the idiot lights :0(

dchautin, I've been having the same problem except my temp light has been coming on even when the car is cold. Someone in my thread replied that the fault is most likely an engine temp sensor.

You might want to invest in a ScanGaugeII so you can see the engine temp. I got one for about $130 on ebay. It just plugs in to the OBDII socket under the dash. I mounted mine to the dash with Velcro and remove it when I take the MINI into the dealer.

It has four readouts on the LCD I run temp, mpg, mph, and boost, but there are other items to choose from.

Normal operating temp seems to be 222 - 225 F.

Drama you cannot prevent. Luckily, ignorance is curable. See page 119 in your Owner's Manual, note the recommendation.
