Leaking oil

Hey all. My uncle just got a mini cooper s not shore what year between 02-06. anyways we noticed it had a oil leak it was comming from the passenger side form this little silver canister that looked to have a motor mount on the top. Is this the oil filter? Just had the oil changed(not shore who), could they have caused the leak. Any remideys for this soultion? We are miles away form the nearest dealer.

Thanks for you time.

That is a motor mount, very common issue. Only fix is to replace. Check with dealer to see if they will do it under warranty. Check the build date and mileage to see if even close to being covered. Some dealer may change it under a goodwill warranty since it is a known issue but that is at their discretion.

Just to add to Gnasters good post, you have an 04 - 06 model as that is a facelift motormount.

I have the same problem. Is the motor mount what is leaking oil? And why?

Yes, the mount is filled with fluid to help absorb vibrations and it's a poor design that seems to leak prematurely.
