2007 MCS Xenon Headlights

I have a HUGE issue with my xenon headlights. This is my 2nd MCS so its not as though I am not used to the brightness. The problem is the lights are bright and shine in everyones eyes. Oncoming traffic constantly flash their brights at me. This would include police officers, buses, SUV's, etc. People I am driving behind are flipping me off and adjusting their rear view mirror. I am to the point where I don't even want to drive at night. I have taken the car to the dealership to see if the lights can be adjusted but they say the lights are perfect. What can I do?!?!?!

The lights maybe properly adjusted while stationary on level ground. But the self leveling mechanism might not be working on the fly.

You can adjust them yourself after they have self leveled and aim the lights lower manually. If they keep self leveling up then I'm not sure you can do much more.

How about aiming the normal driving lights lower, would that make the Xenons point lower as well?

normal driving lights?
I'm not sure what you mean, but yes the headlights can be adjusted.

I've never had anyone flash me because I was blinding them.

Xenons are extremely commonplace these days, so that alone is not the problem. Any chance the brights are stuck on?

If you are parked on a level surface and turn on thelights how bright are they? How far do they extend out? Xenons when in low normal position have a sharply defined cutoff about 100 feet or so in front of the vehicle. In high bright mode it is like a big search light. Are you sure that your brights are not on all the time?

One thing I would do is try to find someone else in your area, or even go to the dealership and see another 07MCS with Xenons. Compare it to your car. See if they are different. If it's at the dealer, maybe they will even let you drive it in the dark to compare.
If the dealer is trying to tell you this is the way they all are, then make them prove it by comparing against another vehicle.

Here's a quick way to check headlight (and driving light) alignment...

Find a level parking lot with a wall (I use a local school). Drive right up to the wall and turn on your headlights. Note where they hit the wall. As you back the car away, watch where the lights contact the wall. If the contact area goes slightly down the further you are from the wall, you should be fine. If it doesn't, or if it goes up, you need to see the dealer (assuming you're under warranty) or adjust them yourself. Good luck!

I've heard the the adjusting screw is plastic and fairly fragile with expensive consequences for damage. Don't know if this is true, but this is one thing I'd let the dealer do if you're not too far. I figure it's their nickel if they mess it up!

Anyone know how to adjust the alignment themselves? I changed my headlights to Black (OEM not Joey Mod) and my passenger's side is aiming as if it's on High beam...any tips on how to adjust it?

Thanks

As mentioned above, maybe the mechanical shutters that open up the "High" beam light pattern is stuck open. If you don't see that sharp cut off against a garage door that is your problem.

THe passenger side should be slightly higher the driver side. This is so that you can see further without blinding oncoming traffic in the other lane.

There is a hole to the inside of the headlights that lets you use a screwdriver to adjust the headlights manually. Just a half turn and it moves it a LOT so be careful (remember that a cm or so on a wall gets inflated under bigger distances on the road)...it took me about an hour one night driving around and testing before I felt I got it just right.

What I did was park up close to my garage door and watch as it slowly rose or sank (use tape to mark off where you currently are)....This also made it easy to match up the other side to the same cut afterward.

Also, the cutoff on xenons are made so that the passenger side is inevitably higher. That 'crease/bump' in the middle puts the passenger side a few inches higher to see farther down the road.

yeah I tested the shutter and it's working properly, I just have to adjust it pointing down...

It does make sense that the pass. side is slightly higher but my side is WAY too high. hahaha

@teamrubixcube - do you have any pictures of exactly what I could adjust??? Let me know!

Thanks!
