Yellow warning light related to exhaust
Yellow warning light related to exhaust
A week ago.. I found that the yellow warning light of my MINI was on. After my MINI was exanmined in MINI repair shop, the light was off. They said that it had no problem.
A few days ago my MINI's gasoline tank was fullfilled with the premium gas at the fliing station, and the light was on again...
I always use the one kind of the premium gas of the one filling station. I have never changed them.
Some friends of my local MINI club in this South Korea say that the problem is related to 'oxygen sensor'.
I wonder if it needs to be exchanged for the new one right now?

Which warning light? If it was the check engine light, and this goes off and on after a refueling, it could just be that your gas cap isn't sealing off correctly. MINIs have a vapor recovery system that depends on a good seal at the gas cap. Try that first before going to the dealership.
I had the same experience, it was an oxygen sensor that was slow to respond. CEL was on, then cycled off after a few trips, then on again a few miles into a trip, hten off, finally stayed on.
Others have had similar experiences with bad charcoal (fuel vapor recovery) canisters.
Dealer can clear the code and the problem - if you're still under warranty it's free (we have a fairly long warranty here in the States, longer if it's emission related. I don't know if that's global).

When you're refueling, stop when the gas pump automatically turns off. Why? Besides the embarrassing stain on your chinos, overfilling your tank can ruin your gasoline-vapor recovery equipment. The recovery canister is supposed to store gasoline vapors rather than release them into the atmosphere. But if you overfill the tank and liquid gas sloshes into the canister, it will stop working, contributing to the formation of ground-level ozone, smog, acid rain, and airborne toxins.

Thank you very much for your kindness.
I have found the upper web site, and have had a question now.
Could you tell me about the way how to examine the recovery canister?

Good question, don't know if it's fixable or only replaceable (it may be ruined if it's overfilled, but I don't know that for sure). You'll have to get someone to read the code that's generataed when the CEL goes on, and act accordingly. It's possible that someone with a Bentley manual can look up the canister question, but until you have the code read you will not know - and we can't help.
