Driver-side Window -- No Worky

Yep. It doesn't work. Just like my left headlight, it wouldn't work SOMETIMES. For the headlight, I removed one of the fuses (which is labeled as a foglight fuse... R6 I believe), and put it back in (not a new one - same fuse). And now it works fine.

I don't remember there being a window fuse, but I'll check once I'm off work. I REALLY hope the motor isn't out... If it is, are there any install instructions?

You're have a bad run today with the A/C and all. If the headlight started working again after you pulled and replaced the same fuse, the fuse jacks and spades may be a bit corroded. You may want to do a remove and replace on all your fuses to regain good contacts.

The fuse location for the left window motor is F1 (top left position) located in the fuse panel in the driver's left kick panel.

Haha yes I am. Jacks and Spades? Hearts and Diamonds? Ha. Ya lost me. Replacing all the fuses would somehow make it all better? Sorry I'm such a noob haha.

I always seem to get the cars with mechanical diarrhea...

Just start with F1. Pull it out. If the little wire in the plastic looks intact, stuff it back in again and see if it works. The contacts will corode, especially if you're located near the coast. pulling it out and pushing it back in will rub off enough corosion to get a good connection. Here are instructions if you want need to replace the motor.

MINI Cooper Service Manual (2002,2003,2004) - Bentley Publishers

Great Book - I think the new edition may also include the '05 & '06, but I'm not certain.

I also had a strange thing happen to my driver window yesterday. It worked fine all day, and when I got in it to go home, the driver window didn't work. I checked and changed the fuse and still nothing. I could hear a click from the relay, but nothing still. This morning...same thing, until I got halfway to work and tried it again...now it works. What's up with that?

It will always work off and on from now on until you replace it. If you attempt to do it yourself, make sure you remove the window motor properly and DO NOT allow the part of the regulator the motor hooks to come out with it or you will be buying a regulator as well.

The common window motor problem with our cars is due to the brushes getting dirty, Instead of wasting the money replacing the motor on mine I just took the old one apart and cleanned it. In the last pic above, you just need to get the cover (B) off and spray some electrical contact cleanner on the parts. Re-assembly is a serious pain though, getting both brushes to stay in position is pretty difficult. I wouldn't recomend this project to anyone unless they have a basic understanding of the internal workings of an electric motor, but if it's not working and you're going to replace it anyway (and you're out of waranty), then you might as well give it a shot.

Love NAM

I actually had this same problem and put off taking it into the shop because I am well out of warranty and knew it would be a big bill. Well I recently joined the Gulf South Motoring and found NAM's link through them. Ive found so much useful information on here and was able to fix my window on my own. A couple raps on the door below the speaker and vuala....works like a charm. Thank you NAM community!!!

That'll work for a little while but it will start getting worse and worse until you clean the motor.

Why do Brits drink warm beer? You'd get use to warm beer too if you had to rely on Lucas refrigeration.

Old bugeye racers' joke.

And what about them SU sidedrafts?

Mini "usual" problems solution

I have a 2003 mini -- now out of warranty -- but before, I had two of the "big" problems -- drivers side window "stuttered," then failed, and power steering failed. In both cases, dealer didn't question failures and replaced entire steering column and power door mechnaism free of charge -- both mechanisms were in stock because they'd admitted they'd had multiple failures. I'd use that "historical failure" history to argue that it's a known flaw and insist that they should replace free of charge.

Now I'm having battery problems, but I'm hoping that's just age, although I only have 35K on the car.

By the way, my dealer is Mini of Sterling, VA.
