Engine Diesel Sound

Not the normal clicky clack sound .On my trip to Shelter Cove I was parked on an incline over night ,in the morning it was in the 40's and I was following my uncle in his car out of Shelter Cove . He took off , I started up and the engine was making a sound like it had no oil in it .It's the same noise that was posted here before but the post is now gone. After a minute it stopped and ran normal.I have not read about this problem recently .Does anyone else still have this problem ?

Mine has made a sound "Rattle,Clacking" a few times at idle and gets worse between 1200 and 1500 RPM, I beleive it is a sticky tensioner, If I blip the throttle to boost the oil pressure it goes away and does not return.

Thank you for the link to the thread but it looked like those were all S/C minis. Mine is a 07 MCS with about 2000 miles on it. Its been about 400 miles since it did it, I am pretty sure it was a tensioner. I keeping my fingers crossed that its gone for good.

My Wifes 2005 Mini S with Dinan S2 has been making the same diesel noise but only at idle. Sometimes not all. Depends I think on how long it idles.

She has run hot twice due to a very very slow 6 month water leak. I say run hot because thats what the gauge says. However when I checked the engine nothing was hot to the touch. Hoses, radiator, even top of head.

Do a search for the PUMA # that addresses the issue by replacing the belt and tensioner. Noise goes away.

The problem this thread refers to is with the second gen "Prince" engine's cam chain tensioner Check the stock problems/issues thread on the first gen cars for info on yr 2005. When I had mine it never dieseled at startup, just ran crappy the first couple of minutes.

Hi!

My Dealer (Mini of Universal City) has confirmed it's the tensioner. They'd ordered the part late last week and it should be in tomorrow.

high idle test

Hi Mini tech here, sometimes there is a oil pressure loss in the timing chain
tensioner. What you can do and works @ times. Is run the engine @ 1500-1800 rpm's for 5 minutes then let idle for a few minutes repeat this step up to 5 times. in most cases this will create enough pressure built up in the chain tension and the noise will dissipate. if not then it will need a updated
tensioner. Rem !!!!ALWAYS CHECK THE OIL LEVEL 1ST. some times I would see newer car with insuffceint oil fill from the factory. I suggest doing this I know alot of customers are not veryclose to there dealers. thats why I said
try this 1st. REM THIS ONLY APPLIES TO THE R56 COOPER S THE N14 ENGINE not the normal cooper.
