CEL leads to Fried Engine Computer!!

One month ago the CEL in my '07 R56 came on, I immediately took it in and they said that the light came on because I was 200 or so miles over due for an oil change, got it back same day fixed......

Sunday night the CEL came back on as I was pulling into the driveway, here's where things get weird, the car was chiming, almost like the seatbelt chime, and it continued to chime after the car was turned off and locked, it stopped once the cool down fan stopped running.... Monday morning I hopped in to take it to the dealer and it wasnt chiming but the light was still on and the car was definitely in limp mode for the first 15 miles or so then it seemed to spring back to life for the remaining 30 except for the CEL remaining lit......

SA told me to pick the car up the next day but when I called late the next day I was told the car was not done and that service was closed but she would get an update for me 1st thing in the AM, thought it was odd that they didnt call to give me a status update at all. So I hear nothing all day today until I called at 4. The SA immediately went and got the Service Manager who told me that they were going to need the car for several days because they need to ship the DME off to north jeresey to "hopefully" be reprogrammed!! Said that the car wont recognize any software and I'm pretty sure that he used the work "fried" and DME in the same sentence!! So knowing that the software on the car cant spontaneously go bad, and that the CODE reader probably didnt tell them to re-install new software, anyone have any idea how they could of fried the computer?? And how worried should I be that my car w/ 17k on it is now nothing more than a paper weight??

oh, then in closing he mentioned that they were also in the process of putting a new clutch in the car!!! 17k!! I did mention the 3-2 downshift squeal for about the 4th time where they usually say "needs to be deglazed, no prob," what changed this time??

are any of these issues related to the cold start/carbon problems?? I know that many people have had the downshift squeal, what seems to be the resolution these days??

I'm really most concerned about the car and the computer not recognizing each other and it being sent off for programming, wondering what you fine folks think may have happened....

Was it the same warning light you saw later? If so, their explanation doesn't make sense because the oil change countdown triggers a service light that is different from a check engine warning.

I don't know, are they short of work in the service dept? Need to make a little extra off warranty this month?

It goes back to poorly or untrained service people, to me.........

I have no real idea what's going on here, but I'd be sitting in front of the service manager in his office and asking some very pointed and detailed questions........

Good thing your car is under warranty, and I hope they eventually find the real problem and fix it for you. Keep us informed as you are, OK?

BTW, did they give you a car to drive in the interim? Is this your selling dealer too?

On the work order from the oil change on december 15th, when the CEL light was also on, it shows they did a scope "NO FAULTS STORES, VEHICLES PROGRAMMING UP TO DATE"

I find it pretty hard to believe that
a) car went in for an oil change w/ the CEL light on, and that there were no faults stored
b) I also cant imagine that in 1 month a new version of the cars software came out from mini and that it was "bad" as the dealer has said. Dealer had to do something out of order or something, He also cant tell me what the original code thrown was!!

Ill keep this updated, but as of right now I am driving a KIA SPECTRA that they got me from enterprise (its absolute TORTURE!!) and I am told to expect my car back by monday, which I find HIGHLY unlikely considering they shipped the DME off this morning.....
