Steering Angle Sensor (SZL) Failure
The part number I have is BM61313451893. Is everyone else's the same? Week 4 and counting. I have a 2005 Mini loaner with an automatic that sucks big time. My 2 year old calls it his MINI. I'm starting to think he's right.
FWIW, I'd take the '05 loaner over the Nissan Versa any day of the week.

UPDATE: yes, that's the part number I got

If you dont jerk them around, they will jerk you around

Unfortunately, I think Mega72 is right. Perhaps you need to see a lawyer. This problem is one of safety in operating the car and if they can't fix it in a reasonable time, then under the warranty there may be legal remedies you could pursue. I understand that Miniusa will pay for the loaner. Have your dealer pursue this or sue them.
Add me to the list. Emma sat for about 10 days, on an incline, and of course it rained often. (I was recovering from an appendectomy.) She's got the DSC malfuntion light on, the wipers that have minds of their own, and turn signals that won't turn off. She was a March build. I can't believe this. I think she has all of 5K on her.
My dealer says their parts are going to have to clear customs, and it's going to be a longer, longer wait for me. I'm headed in tomorrow to trade in the Nissan rental for a MINI or BMW loaner at their suggestion. I'll be glad to get out of the Nissan, that's for sure. It's even worth the drive.
Sounds similar to what happened to mine the other day.

That's basically what I heard, though they weren't quite as optimistic about the timeframe. They'll take time clearing through customs and distribution channels.
Not for this part. It is VIN specific. Nobody in the US stocks them.
edit months after: now they do =)

Just had mine malfunction for the first time last night. Talked to BMW service manager today and he was aware of it--said the car was safe to drive, although I might have to restart to "reset" the idiot lights.
guys, I have exactly the same problems. If I get the switch would it be a simple install or would require the dealer computer diagnostic to reset my ECU?
Since the car is here in the Philippines, I can have the defective part shipped and installed but still, I cannot have the ECU reset since there's no MINI dealer here. I hope you guys can shed light on my question

I just scored the same problem!! I'll call the dealer but, I don't think I'll willingly give up my car til they're ready to pop the new part in. Fortunately I have the best SA ever, so no worries. The car is utterly amazing!!!
Welll... Yes, I need the module (duh), and yes, they have one in stock. Trouble is, they are "species specific"--there are different modules depending on the options, and the one I need "hasn't been released yet." Guess I wait a while longer...
