Wiper Smudge problem
Wiper Smudge problem
I have had my MC for 4 months now and for some reason my wiper blades are leaving smudge marks when I use them in the rain. Has anyone had this problem? What could be causing this to happen to 4 month old blades?
Get free wipers. It's part of your service plan.
I do agree, the wipers aren't good. I got them after only about 6 months, and that's unusually early for my cars. Plus, I had a thin layer of rubber on the far left end of the stroke. Never had that before on anything I've owned.

Try wiping some rubbing alcohol on the edges of the blade - that will prolong their life and make your windshield wipers work more effectively.

Michelin Radius Wipers
I found that the OEM blades started to leave black marks after about 6 months, regardless of whether or not I wiped down the blades with alcohol, etc. I also keep Rain-X on the windows.
Last month I replaced them with Michelin Radius Wiper Blades (Wal-Mart). A marvelous replacement in our rainy, blustery WA weather.
I suppose I could have gone to NW MINI for "free" replacements, but "free" doesn't equal quality IMHO.

Clay your glass
Yes, you heard me right.....
Take your left over clay bar and clay your glass.... You'll be amazed how much crud comes up..... Smooth glass equals better wiper performance
I would suggest replacing OEM blades with almost anything
but I got poopoo'd about such a major modification by a "stock" **** a few weeks ago
I ran PIAA for a while but haven't found them better than simple ANCO, replaced as needed...AFTER I clayed the glass.....

Clay Bar
You'll see in the 'detailing' forum, many discussion of 'claying' a car. Using a bar of clay....yes clay...and a lubricant (no snide remarks) one rubs down the surface and removes many impurities and general ruff stuff fm the paint (clear coat). It is the way to get the babies behind smooth finish. The clay is sort of a super fine polishing compound and the binding agent of the clay pulls away what the abrasive knock loose....the result is a very very smooth finish, ready for your coat of wax. Run your hand over a car a couple of years old - even one waxed regularly and you'll (probably) feel some ruffness. Clay that puppy and in goes to smooooooth. (My next door neighbor bought a new car and told me he paid the dealer a $500 for a special treatment to bring out the luster in the paint. I told him to ask what the process was.....they clay bar'd then waxed it.....
)
Smooth equals even shine on the painted finish.....on glass the same principle applies; smooth is clean. Especially with a new car you can expect all kinds of over spray on your glass - cosmolene for example. Claying your glass removes all that crud with no risk of a scratch. Folks who clay will often save the used clay from doing the paint...and use it to clay their glass. Having the glass baby behind smooth means the wiper blade works better as it doesn't bounce over crud.... Clean glass and a clean blade makes for a good sweep.
I actually run over my windshield with a razor blade a couple of times a year, then clay it....I'm always amazed how much crud I pull up despite twice a week washing

Isn't this the same kind that BMW uses?
I went to a dealer to get them, but they couldn´t say if the would fit my R56.
What is the modelnumber of the wipers you bought??

Don't waste your clay on the outside of your glass!
Use glass cook top polish on your glass. You can purchase it at most appliance stores. It will remove all the water spots and grime and make your glass perfect again. Use Stoners's glass cleaner (Target Auto section) for the inside glass.
