Extended maintenance contract?!?!?!

New MC driver here,

I just bought a 2004 MC, CVT with 5,500 miles on it. I had inquired about the service required and was told the 'service' warranty ran out but could purchase the extended contract for $1595, which would carry me to February of 2010 or 50,000 miles, which ever comes first. I think we will probably drive about 10K a year, so would this 'service warranty' be worth the $1595.

Also, after reading some of the posts, I'm very confused about the costs and milage options of this contract.... Some are saying it's about $400-$500, while others are saying it's closer to what I was quoted ($1595). And is there a 100,000 mile service contract....I was never offered that??

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated!

$1595 covers the cost of one moderate repair...that's a bargain.

There's two separate things you can buy:

Extended service and extended warranty.

The car came with included service for 3 years or 36,000 miles,
also a 4 year 50K warranty,
and a 10 year, 100K rust warranty

You can buy an extended warranty OR extended maintenance, or both.

Typically there is a 100.00 deductible for any service, before the extended warranty goes into effect.

I hope I described that accurately. Anyone feel free to clarify and correct me, that knows better.

I think its a pretty good deal. When stuff breaks on these cars its typically not cheap. I bought my 02 MC with 48k in September 06 from Carmax. I bought there 4 year/48,000 extended warranty for like $1350, and its more than paid for itself in less than a year. Replaced: Steering column bearings $900, Frozen brake caliper $300, Broken tailgate hinges $200, Rebuild transmission $3200. Still have 38,000 miles/3+ years left. Its actually the first time I ever got my money back out of a warranty.

From what I've read, there is no deductible on the extended warranties if you get them from Mini. If it is a third party warranty then yes, expect to pay a deductible. If you get it from Mini, you are extending the original coverage which of course does not have a deductible.

The quote you were given JDub sounds fairly accurate. As others have said, there are two warranty options, one to extend the warranty out to 10 years/100,000 miles and one to extend the scheduled maintenace out.

I'll be purchasing both for my wife's R53 soon, as it is due to come out of the 3yr 36k maintenance warranty next year. Yes, they may be pricey, but it is a comfort knowing you have the coverage. I'd rather pay for the coverage and know that I have it, then not have it and get stuck with random high repair/maintenance bills.

Is this the car that was at Executive Auto Gallery? If so, that car was under water and has a salvage title. If you can get an extended warranty you should spend whatever it takes.

Interesting. I was told last fall by Toby (F & I guy) at Rasmussen MINI, that there was a $100.00 charge for any work before MINI USA sourced extended warranty coverage was activated. Although I think there are several tiers of coverage available for purchase.

Perhaps I misheard him or got it twisted around in my head.

Still, knowing MINIs I think I might opt for it as well, if I didn't have the ability or inclination to work on the car myself.

If you have not already purchased the warranty protection, check with your lending bank or credit union. They typically offer warranty plans that are a lot cheaper than the dealers

warranty issue

I just signed up for an extended maintenance. 5 yr/50K.
The $100 deductible statement is true. However, I had a $135 option to forego any deductible.

Maintenance or warranty? I did not think MINI maintenance programs had a deductible.
Is is a TOTAL of 5yr/50K or does it EXTEND your current 4y/50K warranty by 50K?
What was the company and/or premium if you don't mind?

Where did you go/who did you call to extend your warranty?

Mine will be running out soon.

My Dealer sells third party coverage, it is worth having.
