Brake Dust + White Rims = Major Problem

Ok... please someone tell me that the brakedust on my white Mini rims will go away...

I went on an unexpected month-long trip outta the country. I usually clean my rims, eh, every other day. Just came back and gave my mini a nice wash. Rims are stained. I don't know if that's perm. or if i can take it somewhere or buy something to get it off. i bought black magic tire cleaner spray -- didn't do anything.

Any suggestions on products? Or should I take it to a car detail shop and have them deal? And what about in the future? any way to prevent?

Aftermarket prake pads.

Certain brands of pads will dust less than others, also the dust can be easier to clean from brand to brand.

Not owning a mini yet myself I can't recomend a specific brand but hopefully someone else will chime in. But judging from others' comments on the board about brake dust I'm guessing the factory pads are not the ones to go with.

Use claybar to remove the crap...

and then use a good wax on the wheels as well. That will help keep the stuff from sticking in the first place.

I haven't tried the pads mentioned, but have run EBC greenstuffs. They are kevlar based, dust less and are less harsh on the rotors.

If people would use the search function a majority of answers to your questions will probably be found.

The search function on this forum is a POS. Besides, 95% of the posts are tripe (mine included). Newbies have a right to ask new questions and get the same or different answers than those provided to similar questions.

1. There are alot of opinions on brake pads. When changing to more dustless pads you have to consider how that will affect the life of the rotor. I have found that the stock rotors are extremely soft and usually have to be replaced every time the pads are replaced. On one thing Armydog is right, lots of info already posted by others regarding better pads.
2. But since your real question was how to get the stains off: use any good car polish and/or road tar remover (if you don't know what claybar is). That will strip the film of oily dust that has penetrated the micro-irregularities in the surface. Then, as already mentioned, protect the wheel with a good wax. That will make cleaning much easier the next time.

I've used WD-40 for years on my Duc with white powder coated wheels. Works great, less filling

Clean wheels the easy way

I hate brake dust too, doesn't everyone. Now some people will start screaming, let them, I have used Kleenwheels brake dust shields from the first day I brought my Mini home. I love them!!! My wheels stay clean for weeks! I wax my wheels every 6 months or so. Now I do take these shields off when I go to the track or on the Dragon. I have 24,000 miles with the original OEM pads. I have never had brake fade or warped rotors.

Use P21S gel wheel cleaner for cleaning. It is safe and very effective in removing the brake dust.

YES! But too many people have worthless words to title their posts.

I use green pads, much less dust.

I was a newbie once and have had many issues with the search featrue myself. There will always be newbies and I don't mind answering their questions as I appreciated and still appreciate the humble and nice people (unlike ArmyDog) who will take the time to help people instead of wasting time and space online being a d#*k.
Anyway, off my soapbox and onto the question at hand. ALL BMW BRAKE PADS DUST TERRIBLY! I went to the Hawk HPS ceramic and LOVE them.

Cheers.
