cruise control question

I just got my MFSW and I have a question about how it works. I've used the CC in the loaner and I think I understand, but just in case somebody here give me a tutorial on the 07.

The big question is:

First thing you do after you are driving within CC specs - hit the 1/0 button on the outside position, and I should see the CC light come on in the speedo - second light from left (second in clockwise direction).

Is that right?

it lights up and looks like a little speedo...then when you're at your desired speed, I believe you hit the "+" button and it will maintain that speed until you brake...use the "-" button to decrease the desired speed, or the "+" to increase it...hitting the I/O button twice will turn off CC...have fun!!!

...and hitting the I/O button once will "pause" the CC, like like hitting the brake... uhh, without hitting the brake.

OK - and the button with the little speedo on it resumes the last cruise speed.

This works exactly the same as the loaner. Only difference is the light on the 06 is in the tach, not the speedo.

And in my 07 with my new MFSW.....it don't work at all. The light is not even coming on. I have to bring it back to the dealer.

I thought I read somewhere that you have to turn off DSC (if you have it) before using CC.

That sounds crazy. I can't imagine BMW requiring one to turn off a safety feature in order to use cruise control. They would be opening themselves up for massive liability.

Yeah, that does not sound right, and I don't have DSC anyway so its not that. I was back at the dealer Weds and drove it with the head of service. He agreed it was not working. They did a quick check for blown fuses in case it was a simple fix. Nothing turned up so they are inquiring and scheduled me to come back in next friday. Hopefully they will figure it out before I get back there. I'm hoping for a one hour pitstop and not another weekend with my "other Mini", (the 06 MC loaner ).

Went back in on friday and by mid day it was fixed. Shop leader told me that they had to reflash the entire software package. Previously they only flashed the modules associated with the MFSW and the cruise would not work. Full reflash and everything is working like a charm now. I'm afraid I won't see my other Mini for a while now!

I have another question about cruise control. In other cars a short press of the + or - keys will change your speed by 1mph. Does the Mini's system do this?

I think + increases it my 2mph. - decreases it until you let go (coasts).

Actually, I think the internal operation of the cruise control still uses metric units, whether or not the rest of your displays are English or metric.

What I've found is that a single press of the "+" or "-" button changes my set speed by exactly 1kph, not 1mph. The change is consistent, too. If I press either button five times, the resulting set speed will change by 3 mph. If I press it ten times, the set speed changes by 6 mph.

And going back to the first post, you don't have to wait until you're driving any particular speed before pressing the "1/0" button and getting the cruise control indicator on your dash. The "1/0" button is just the "master arm/disarm" switch for the cruise control system. Every cruise contol system I've ever used has something similar, probably because of an inherent mistrust of cruise control on the part of owners.

Thanks Scott - I could feel a small surge of acceleration when I hit the + button, but the speedometer (digital) did not increase. Now I know thats because it was a KPH, not a MPH, so it did not register on the read out.

Now that it is working I see that the dash light comes on no matter the driving speed.

i was using mine tonight and one push of the + increased speed 1 mph, one push of - decrease 1 mph, i was using Mph not kph, the button on the left side the one with the pic of the speedo sets the speed and holds it once the system is turned on, i didnt have to turn off the dsc, everything worked fine. i had the Mph displayed in the tach, one push of the + visibly increased speed by 1 mph

That's interesting - MINI must have changed the speed increment at some point, or it's a dealer-programmable option, because a single press on my cruise control "+" and "-" buttons definitely only changes the set speed by 1 kph, not 1 mph.
