teething pains... btooth, nav, voice, sunroof.

I picked up my brand new Mini MCSa two weeks ago after a three month wait.... I love it, won't part with it but it's the little things that are bugging me.

Ordered a Nav system, but the dealer says the disks are backordered so I am waiting for that. The voice activation doesn't work, the Bluetooth works only sometimes. The rear hatch needs to be slammed to stay closed and the wind really whistles though the driver's side window seal at highway speed. Now, after sitting in sun the sunroof would sort of jiggle but refuse to open, but it seems to work as long as it's not in the sun.

I think the hatch, sunroof and door seal are just easily fixed adjustment problems and according to these forums the voice activation only needs a software upgrade fix that. But it seems odd for the dealer not to have Nav disks. Is there an upgrade coming?

My UT Starcom 6700 phone drops bluetooth with the mini after a 5 or so minutes. The Mini is actually the first device of 30 or 40 I've tried that doesn't work with it. Can anyone recommend a phone? Mini's website list is pretty old.

I had the Starcom 6700. Once I finally got it linked, there were no problems with the bluetooth. Maybe the software download will help that too. Sounds like you got some alignment problems the dealer needs to address. Hopefully, it isn't you body out of alignment. The nav has only been available since March, so I doubt there is an upgrade dvd yet. They probably forgot to put one in your vehicle and had to order another one. At this point, I doubt the dealers would have spares.

I remember buying a Mercedes in 2002, and when I went to pick it up, the salesman said that they could not find the navigation disk, and that he would order me one. I said fine, let me know when it comes in, and I'll pick up the car at that time. As I was walking out of the stealership, he came out and said that they has suddenly found the nav disk!...big surprise.

I'm using a Treo 680, an iPhone, and a Sony Ericsson 520a with no issues on our 2007 MCS

thanks for the help, I don't think there is an alignment issue with the car, it tracks straight, no rattles, so I just think it's minor adjustments.

the bluetooth dropping is annoying, I'll wait for the update to fix the voice, and then start playing around with firmware versions on the 6700 if until I find one that works well.

Here's a random possibility on the window noise: sometimes my window doesn't move back up after the door is closed and then makes quite a bit of noise at highway speed.

IIRC, there was a post here somewhere about resetting the window top position. Might be in the manual.

Thanks, I've tried the two variations on the resetting options I've seen mentioned on here. Each worked for a short period and the problem seems to be intermittent anyway.

Well I left the car at the dealership for a day and found the following:

- No navigation DVD, could be another month or more before it comes in.

- No voice activation. Apparently the option was not available in Canada, however BMW is giving it away to people who ordered the techology package to show how nice they are. Does this make any sense? All my Canadian manuals show how to use voice activation, maybe a printing error too?

- The sunroof needed adjusting, but still doesn't open when left in the sun (though the glass now lines up nicely) I'll bring this one back to them again

- There is nothing wrong with the hatch I'll just have to get used to slamming it harder than I think is normal. Apparently the X3's and X5's are like this too. (it does seem to be loosening up on its own though)

- The whistle from the poor door seal was never looked at since they only had the car for a day. I'll try resetting the window myself.

So my dealer is submitting a puma for the voice activation and I will bring it in for a third time in the next week or so to get the option installed. Taking it in for service the first two times was a complete waste of time since they never actually fixed anything at all.

I love the car and don't yet regret the purchase but I really miss the service and the build quality I had with my old Acura.

Hey Oneway,
I'm in Toronto, and am waiting for my MCS which should be ready in about 4 weeks. When you say that there is not voice activation, do you mean using voice comands with the Nav etc? I was looking forward to it, I can't believe they wouldn't have it available in Canada. What area are you in. Good luck with everything.

According to my dealer "Voice activation is not avaialble in Canada and is not part of the technology package." I press the voice button on the steering wheel and nothing happens since nothing is supposed to happen.

BUT for whatever reason mini realized it's a mistake and is installing voice activation on my car. so if you bought the tech package and it comes without voice mini will install it if you ask them to.

That's really strange, I spoke with my dealer today about it and mentioned what was going on with you, and he told me that cars built up to June did not have it, and since June they do have it and assured me that mine would have it seeing that I have the Tech Pkg. Maybe yours was just before the change, but I can't believe they wouldn't have it for Canadian cars.

It is very odd that's why I posted it on here... it just didn't make sense to me. my car was delivered three weeks ago, June 29th, so maybe mine got missed.

At any rate, the dealer is installing the voice activation next week and hopefully (please oh please) my nav disk will be in and I will get to see what I actually paid for. Why I have to wait for software is entirely beyond me, it is a disk, a simple disk, waiting a month is retarded

I was able to reset my windows so they no longer whistle at speed, and I think I will ignore the ongoing sunroof issue in the hope it goes away (laying odds at 50/50)

despite all the hassles I do love the car.
