anyone else pull their shift **** off? i've done it twice already when shifting from 1st to 2nd. both times while drag racing, of course, so i lost. instead of ending up in 2nd, i end up in neutral with a shift **** in my hand. it's very frustrating to lose a race like that. anyone think of a better way to secure the shift ****, besides superglue, which did cross my mind...

Mine has popped off twice. The first time shifting into reverse while parallel parking on a hill at the SF Italian job screening with about 30 mini's all around. It happened again this morning shifting into reverse in my garage.

I switched to a UUC **** and it installs with an allen screw. Feels much more solid and can be very solidly secured with the screw. I suspect a Whalen or MOMO ****--both of which seem to be more popular here on MCO--would install the same way.

The shift **** isn't suppose to do that, duh. Bring it back to the dealer and have them fix it.

My friend managed to pull mine off two weeks ago...have yet to do it myself though. However since I'd already heard about this problem, I've been careful about it since I got my MCS anyway.

My original shift **** would come off when I would fly through the gears. This **** eventually shed it's clear window like many others have done and was replaced under warranty. The new **** is MUCH tighter and has not come off at all, and takes a very determined effort to yank off unlike the original. Complain to the dealer and get a new one, then go for an aftermarket ****. That way, you will have a new MINI **** as a paperweight!

i took one off when i test drive a MCS. it jump off and went to the back seat, the girl(pretty looking) working in the sales got it in the back. she was amazed. it was funny. first time drive a MINI and got the "thing" off! haaaaaaaaaaaa

They were worry about to lose the business, and apologize and told me that they would give me discount if i buy the car from them. it was cool, but after they gave me the price with the discount, it still over than another dealership in town.

Pathetic!

Wow, what are you people doing to your stick shift?

Heh heh, just kidding... I've given my **** a few tugs and it feels like it's bolted on...

I'd say time to call the dealer and ask for a new one...

I got my Whalen...and I love it. The coupling is great, it detaches when you want it to, but if you've got it locked down, there's no WAY you could pull it off. It's great looking, and nice and heavy for smooth shifts. I absolutely recommend it. After pulling off ***** in three different Beemers and now a MINI, Whalen is the best thing I have found for my car. Worth the extra $, and less expensive than many ***** I've seen...

it took me a great deal of pain to get mine off. (Literally) When it finally snapped off it flew and hit my chin, leaving a nasty bruise. ouch. Needless to say it looked very funny and I felt like a complete idiot.

Yes, if your shift **** is not falling off, be careful when you
try and pull it off. Bango into the head.

I sat on the brake release lever. (Ouch) with one foot in each
footwell, grabbed the **** and used my knees to push on my hands
and pop it off.

It was darn tight.

Supposedly it meant "Overclocker's Comparison Page".
