Just lost my brakes

Coming home from the store a few minutes ago the red brake light came on the peddle went to the floor and the DCS light came on and I have no brakes.
And there is no brake fluid.
I had the pads changed Friday anybody have any ideas? Glad it happened now and not on the front straight at Barbers next Saturday.

Assuming you got it home????, crawl under with a flashlight and start looking for leaks of evidence of where the fluid went. Take all the wheels off and start looking for wetness, a pad that sheared and let the piston pop out, anything that is not normal... if you can't find the leak, pour more brake fluid in and start pumping the pedal,,, it will show up somewhere.

Don't forget to check the back of the master cylinder where it will dump fluid into the brake booster. The booster will hold a lot before it shows.

Did you hit anything?

Could be a brake line.

What I would do, is pour some brake fluid into the resevoir and then pump the brake and just see where the brake fluid comes out.

When you do fix it, DEFINITELY get the fluid flushed and such to make sure you don't have any air in the system.

I vote for bleeders. They probably opened them working on the brakes, and now one worked loose. You'd lose a lot of the fluid in that situation.
Have it towed back to them to have them rebleed the brakes. I shudder to think about the amount of air in the lines now.

I got it home what I'm going to do is have it towed back and get it fixed this could have been a REAL problem. I'm wondering a bit about the shop.

I'm guessing the DSC light came on when it saw there were no brakes.

Did you look under or make any attempt to see what had happened?

I have zero mechanical skills so I've not checked, I'll let you know what it is but my guess is it is something the shop did. The car only has 13,000 miles.

Open bleeder or damaged brake line. That much fluid loss will show up pretty clearly at the source of the leak.

You know, like he (^) said, it could also be a damaged or loose brakeline. If they did your brake job, and let the Caliper hang loose, it can severly damage the brakeline where its attacked to the hard line and the caliper. That could also be the culprit.

Either way, I would be raising hell at that shop. Make sure some other customers are there while your yelling...for effect.

I'm still wondering why you asked for all our input about what might be the problem and then you have not even gotten down on your knees with a flashlight and taken a peek. That doesn't take much mechanical skills. It makes me not want to spend my time trying to help out some of you younger guys who have problems. Sorry for the attitude, but when you don't do anything to help yourself except call for the tow truck, why do you ask us for help?

I felt badly about my post after I hit the send button, and considered deleting it, but I'm just not used to people (I'm just not used to the younger generation who didn't grow up working on their cars in order to have something to drive).

Mozzarella, sorry to be so blunt, please forgive me, I was not trying to give you a hard time, I just expect people to try just a little bit to solve their problems. I am personally curious as to why your brakes went away... I take all this info I gather and store it away for future ref.

Hmmm lets see... MBE he was just looking for ammunition to take with him when he goes to the shop. I am not mechanically inclined but would have asked for opinions if it had happened to me. MBE he was just freaking out & looking to vent. I would be had my brakes just completely gone out. I also don't think a non-mechanically inclined person should tamper with their brakes as this can lead to catastrophic failure & death

You hear that mozzarella you young whipper snapper you

Let us know the outcome. One open bleeder would render half the system useless, but there should be a split in the reservoir to keep the entire system from going down. Given that he didn't say he hit anything, I assume that's the case.

IMO, if you're going to go to the track, it would be beneficial to gain some basic knowledge about the car's systems.
In this case, looking around doesn't require any mechanical knowledge, but if you see a big pool of brake fluid, that would give you a clue as to the source of the problem.

As for you bamatt, live hard, drive fast, and work on your own brakes. Then again, I'm a Darwinist.

Ahhh yes but a true Darwinist would know that I still deserve to be here based on the fact that I accept my mechanical limitations & am smart enough to know better than to mess with my brakes
but I do live hard & drive fast

Scary stuff for anyone, but especially so for someone who's not mechanically inclined.........

Glad they fixed it, but I'd think twice about using them again, if you have a choice...........

Glad you got it taken care of. You may want to find a more trustworthy shop. You were very fortunate this time.

I fear to ask, but did any brake fluid get on your new pads? If so, they need to be replaced.

I'm also guessing that the brake fluid also got all over the inside of your wheel and tire. Brake fluid will dissolve paint, so I suggest, if you are so inclined to inspect your wheel and the body paint around that fender and all of the rear of the car for little raised places on the paint. You will need to wash it very carefully before this inspection. You may need to remove the wheel to see if the pads were soaked.

We'll turn you into a 'mechanically inclined' driver whether you want to or not, hehe.
