Starter killed by dead clutch? Is the dealer lying to me?

It'd be nice to be able to swap to a getrag tranny... not sure I want another midlands with how they're failing, and a remanufactured one just means it's failed once already

Well, just got a phone call... apparently the noise that was being heard was a result of the bmw dealer installing the clutch incorrectly... mini of mountain view took it apart, fixed it, and all is well now. Picking the car up tomorrow morning.

Got a message from the mini dealer, seems that stevens creek had bent an inspection plate/cover, and that's what was causing the noise.

If you ever have to bring your car back there, pay them in cash, and make sure it's really greasy first.

Glad to hear your car is back on the road! Is it worth asking whether the incorrectly installed clutch may have put any excessive wear on other parts as it was making noise? (I know nothing about clutches. Nothing.)

the car will never go back there... ever...

Without knowing exactly what the inspection plate was rubbing that was causing noise, I can't imagine it could have done anything that would expediate any wear on anything.

In the end, I got a new clutch, a resurfaced flywheel, and a new fan switch installed for the cost of a filthy car, and 2.5 out of the 3 weeks I've owned the car... not too mention a living hell

oh well... it's working now...

just never go to Stevens Creek BMW

Glad it's working.

I spoke with someone in England that did the midlands to getrag 6 speed switch and they said it cost about 1000 pounds. So about 2000 plus or minus a few hundred. That is without labor.
